HORRIBLE INN, RUDE MANAGEMENT, STUPID CASH REQUIREMENT, AND A RIP-OFF. I am a 73-year old white woman. I own what Trip Advisor calls the #1 B&B in the Historic District of Charleston, SC. I am VERY familiar with hotel reservations, check-in protocols, and on-line booking sites like Expedia and its many offshoots, including Travelocity. Two weeks before our trip, I reserved 2 rooms thru Travelocity for me, my son and his wife for one night because this Inn was near the home of friends we were to visit. My AmEx card was charged $138.16. On check-in day, I called to say we were driving up from Charleston to take our friends to supper an hour away In Greenville, SC, and would be arriving late at the Inn. I again called at 9pm to say our check-in would be after 11pm. THIS MAKES TWO CONVERSATIONS I HAD WITH THEIR FRONT DESK. When we arrived at the Inn at 11:20pm, we were suddenly told we had to pay $40 CASH for each room, ON TOP OF WHAT HAD ALREADY BEEN CHARGED TO MY AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD weeks earlier. I did not have that much cash. I have an American Express card with a generous $20,000 credit limit. My card had been charged weeks earlier. The night desk clerk told me to use the lobby ATM to withdraw cash. I have never used an ATM in my life, nor is my card set up for use in an ATM. Because we did not have enough cash, we were not allowed to check into our rooms. We asked the night clerk to please call her manager, a woman named Hope, to please make an exception. She called Hope and Hope refused to grant us an exception. As a MISERABLE CONSEQUENCE, we had to drive 4 hours back to Charleston, where we live. We arrived home at 3:30am. To add insult to injury, our room charge was not refunded to my American Express card, as I had requested when the night clerk turned us away. I had to call American Express to dispute the charge. I have traveled the world, Paris, London, Rome, Hong Kong, Singapore, New York - you name it - and NEVER been treated so shabbily. This is a rock-bottom place in an old Holiday Inn and should be avoided at all costs. One we got there, we saw that their clientele is a rock-bottom group, despite the fact that God loves us all the same. As an innkeeper myself, I know they have implemented this cash requirement because their rock bottom clientele has bad credit, bad or stolen credit cards, and other untrustworthy financial situations. This is not a typical Red Roof Inn, which is usually acceptable, albeit not luxurious. Red Roof Inn should kick them out of their national chain affiliation, which overall has a decent reputation.

Floor installer Everyone I've delt with has been certious and professional. I was staying there and my daughter got out of the hospital and Alexis moved us to a handicap accessible room. It was right on time. The room is great! Thank you Red Roof staff!

Rat Hole I live in NC. We only stayed here one night, we had gotten the last ADA (handicap) room, because my daughter had a follow up with her surgeon and we needed a hotel that also accepted pets. She had been in a car accident when we were visiting the area in September. The room was horrible. The AC didn't work, the wallpaper was peeling off the wall, the toilet paper holder was falling out of the wall and the handicap shower seat had fallen off the wall and it was sitting on the floor, with broken ceramic tile. Since we needed a handicap room we stayed. Otherwise I would have asked for a different room.

Work Very nice and polite workers. The rooms were older but clean and taken care of. I would definitely stay again. The outside is clean picked up no trash everywhere and the trees and grass were kept up. I have recommended red roof inn to my families and friends as well. My best friend is getting married soon and told here to have her out of towners to feel comfortable staying here for the event.
