More good than bad, generally friendly staff, great location, minor uglies, and dryers not working!! This hotel has apparently improved since the many bad reviews in 2022. Overall it would be ok for the price, except that multiple dryers in the laundry had no heat, which cost us extra money, and the manager did not offer a refund or compensation for that. Boo, hiss! Get that fixed, staff!
When we did find a good dryer by trial and error, it worked well. But trial and error and my wife not realizing the true problem right cost us an extra $5 to dry a few (1 load of) clothes: $7.50 total.
The "as expecteds" and "should be expecteds", given the pricing:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Simple TV (turns on very slowly, so I didn't think it worked initially, but it did work.) Limited free channels, but good for news & "alphabet" networks ABC, Fox, CNN, PBS, etc. More available for $$. We were too busy to care about anything except the weather forecast - more about the weather (and a power outage), later)!
The wi-fi worked ok, but if you need high speed you may want to pay for the upgrade. For general web browsing, e-mail, etc., it was fine!
Slight signs of wear and tear, a few SLIGHT small stains (the kind that can only be painted over, I think) on the walls, nothing awful.
The room had a slightly "closed room" odor initially, but our food and running the exhaust fan* in the bathroom for the 1st evening's showers & other bathroom "activities" (3 of us) seemed to dissipate that. No smoking odor problem, and my wife is quite sensitive to odors.
MINIMAL free breakfast. Go over to the nearby Wally World and pick up something to make, or hit a restaurant.
HVAC worked fine, not too noisy.
Bedding, linens, towels were clean. Very neutral, no enhanced freshness such as from scented dryer "Bounce" sheets.
Everything in the bathroom worked fine** & was clean, except the toilet seat was loose.
Useful looking range (tho' we didn't use it.)
Microwave was a bit small. Worked fine.
Room itself should be quite good for long stays.
The day we left there WAS a slight odor of marijuana in one elevator. But I've experienced same in much pricier hotels when the company I used to work for paid for such for company trips.
No in-room emergency lighting.* Keep a flashlight handy.
The provided USB power outlets will not some phones. Common problem - bring your own adaptor.
Reasonable / typical number of readily accessible AC power outlets, but not "a lot".
Hotel grounds clean / not trashy. (Slight blown trash on very windy night could have come from "anywhere", was cleaned up next day.)
Pros:
--------
Staff (desk) seemed friendly and efficient.
Great location, very easy access off the "lower level" (frontage road) of US 183.
2x elevators, had no problem with long waits.
Very little bothersome noise(s). (We had a "back side" room away from the street.)
The greenway viewable out our window sometimes had a couple cattle grazing in it! (Food supply if really desperate? Hahaha.)
Hot water held up well the night the weather caused a 2 hour power outage.
Fairly convenient, spacious room layout (worded fine for the 3 of us.)
Full size fridge, fridge section a little cool to cool and control broken off. Freezer section quite strong.
Emergency lighting in hallways and stairwells was adequate.*
Overall room lighting slightly better than average (mostly due to the "kitchen" area light -- I hate only having wall lamps.)
Cons:
Upon arrival, found ~3 "lint / hair bunnies" about 1/2" x 1-1/2" right out on carpeted, floor. Appeared to have been rolled up by vacuum but not sucked up and housekeeper didn't notice? Rest of floor(s) were clean though.
NO utensils, dishware, pots and pans, etc. unless you ask front desk for such.
No little bottles of shampoo, soap, etc.
Upon arrival, found no power to the outlets on the wall the TV is on, until I reset the breaker, which looked ok, but power came on as I reset the breakers. No further problems* and very accessible breaker box.
Timing on using some of the door locks (insert key card) was a bit tricky.
Rear door lock not working - people kept propping the door open. (Security risk.) Note posted said parts were on order - maybe blame the Houthis for supply chain issues?
Laundry dryer issue as noted above!
Austin tap water gets a C-. (Not hotel's fault.)
-------------
*Strong winds caused a 2 hour power outage in the immediate neighborhood. NOT the hotel's fault, but, it was not a major storm -- the power company was slow to restore compared to what I'm more used to in similar circumstances, but I realize there may have been more major problems elsewhere.
