Residence Inn by Marriott - tone deaf during a pandemic During the COVID-19 pandemic, after self-quarantining for 2 weeks, we drove 1200 miles to visit immunocompromised family members in the Philadelphia suburbs. We chose this Marriott Residence based on location (proximity), the Residence kitchenette, & the Marriott reputation. We paid for our room to “sit empty” for a full day before our check-in, & pre-declined housekeeping service during this pandemic. Our experience: (1) upon check-in, the toilet was broken (needed a new “flush bar” in the tank, & the main kitchen lightbulb was burnt-out (in what was already a dark room) - - thus, immediately, despite our planning, housekeeping repairs were absolutely necessary (2) by our 3rd night, VERY LOUD customers moved-in above our room; there was 3 hours of “jumping” & “running” noise; it sounded like a bowling alley until 10:30 pm - - when brought to the attention of management, they suggested that we “change rooms” (during the pandemic which we had tried to prepare for!). Management would NOT move the noisy customers who did not know who to behave in a public hotel/residence (3) the staff were generally pleasant (but unhelpful per The Above problems) (4) this Residence quality is mediocre re: (a) all our requests were fulfilled eg. additional closet hangers, extra roll of toilet paper ... but each (modest) request was met with what seemed like “suspicion” on the part of the staff (b) exterior room door/door handle was in a poor condition & difficult to “open” upon entry (c) breakfast-to-go in a bag is complimentary but is comprised of: cellophane wrapped muffin, Dole canned fruit cup, & subpar coffee (d) mediocre shower/tub etc (e) very dim room lighting (f) bedding, thankfully, was comfortable We’ve stayed in many Marriotts over the years, and we’ve come to expect a better level of service in a hotel/residence/room that’s in better condition than this one. It would have been easier to tolerate all of these shortcomings if there wasn’t a serious pandemic, and if management had a “Can do” approach to solving/resolving a serious noise issue which developed midway in our one week stay; alas the attitude of management was “We can’t “.

Helpful but needs work The hotel staff tried to be helpful, but struggled with the reservation( had wrong check out date althgough correct in computer/reservation system) so they didnt clean or bring towels as requested (and had to arrange a day in advance) and the hotel needs better maintenance. Huge garbage pile at hotel was a smell and health problem, trash in common areas needed to be managed, rooms needed updating, tried to arrange housekeeping to get towels and they only came at 4p the day before check out. They mow the grass, but the upkeep otherwise is a problem Fitness center was open but no towels or water

Great value, nice room, clean, friendly staff Clean, almost-luxurious suite, with three (!) closets, a smaller 'real' kitchen, dining table for three, king size bed --do wish they had queens/doubles but they have only kings :-( - pull-out couch, and nice bathroom. Adequate bedding for the pull out couch (which was, as they always are, not comfortable). Maybe even more impressive was the lovely included breakfast buffet in the morning, and the friendly staff both at check-in and during breakfast. Older Asian woman named Ann and man named Phil are gems. THANK YOU, Residence Inn! (I'll be back if you get some queen-size beds. We are a family of 4-5, not a couple...) Oh, there's a strip of green in back perfect for tossing a football, and apparently also a running trail although I didn't see. Looks like a great place for a summer stay, incl with the outdoor pool and firepit.
