Loved results of remodel (mostly completed) This is the elusive bargain for those who want to save expenses while still having clean, safe, roomy accommodations that don't offer it all, just a little more than basic. Location is great in proximity to shopping, dining, and UAB Medicine facilities; while still maintaining some enjoyable greenspace ambiance. Parking, ice, breakfast, coffee, hot tea and some toiletries are free. Room had clothing iron, hair dryer, and mini-fridge (without freezer), single-serve coffee/tea maker with replacable pad insert, comfortable beds, decent cable-TV selection, internet access (didn't use), and a closet without hangers (did have shelf and solid hanging rod); no drawers anywhere. Temperature controls (wall unit) was quick achived setting, both heat and cooling. Am not sure what happened with those who reviewed about rude employees as my interactions were very pleasant with genuine appreciation for authentic complements; though on a previous visit a couple of the remodling workers were inconsiderate by delaying passage through shared spaces.

Don’t When I booked to stay here I didn’t expect it to be the Balagio. This however was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. The hotel is going through renovations, which was not stated when booking. The elevator was sketchy. Felt like it was going down any moment. It smells terrible in the hallway. There were bugs, possibly baby roaches in the bathroom. The room did not feel like it had been cleaned throughly before for there. Found hair? In the refrigerator and remnants of the remodel. The toilet in the bathroom stopped flushing the last day we were there. Also, was not able to use the gym because of the remodel. Do yourself a favor and don’t stay here. Maybe after the remodel is finished, but for now, don’t.

Disappointing experience This property is quite dated and in need of a makeover…not just a paint over which has been done several times including light switch plates in bathroom. The room was dirty and the bathroom had hair on the tub and floor. Breakfast was minimal offering cold cereal, bagels and waffles. We have stayed in many LaQuintas, and this one was quite disappointing.

New spacey room – but loud noise and smells like weed We stayed with our family and found the room to be spacey and loved that it was newly renovated. Within an hour of checking in the room next to us had really loud music. The managers were all really responsive anytime we shared concerns. Every night the hotel near the stairwells and certain rooms we passed smelled like weed - I even woke up the last morning to the smell of weed. You'd think if it's a no smoking hotel we wouldn't have to smell weed around every corner. Breakfast time was always packed - but can't say it was that great - just bagels, waffles, yogurt and boiled eggs - better than nothing but not as great as the breakfast at some other la quinta's we've stayed at. The pool was closed when we went due to renovations to the first floor - that was a big disappointment because nothing communicated the renovations or pool closure until we walked into the lobby. If I had known we likely would have stayed elsewhere. The shower is not accessible - we thought we were getting a bathroom with a shower and bathtub and so we didn't reserve an accessible room because we wanted a bathtub and 2 queen beds. The manager was helpful and found a shower chair - but it would be nice if all showers were accessible - not just so a wheelchair user could enter it easily but so the actual act of operating the shower was easy - a handheld shower part makes this much easier and would benefit all people who stay. The sign on the room wall said there'd be a do not disturb sign and if it wasn't used they'd enter the room to clean and get new towels, etc. - well, there wasn't a do not disturb sign. We hoped that would mean we'd have the trash taken out or the towels changed - but instead we had to go ask for new towels and we had to put trash out or meet the person cleaning the rooms. Overall the room we stayed in was a decent stay other than these concerns shared - the room was spacious and clean and gave us a space to rest while we were in the area. We left and no one printed a receipt for us - the promised to email it but I still have yet to receive it and called and they claim they emailed it so if you stay and need a receipt make sure you get it printed!
