Extremely Disappointing Stay – Noisy Construction and Poor Cleanliness We recently stayed at The Onyx Downtown (recently changed their name to Pennyweight Hotel), and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we’ve had. There were ongoing construction projects within the hotel, and the noise started as early as 5 a.m. each morning. We weren’t informed about this beforehand, which made it impossible to get any rest. A hotel stay should be a relaxing experience, not one disturbed by constant hammering and drilling! To make matters worse, the cleanliness of the room was not up to standard. There was noticeable dust and hair on the surfaces, and the bathroom wasn’t as clean as expected for a hotel of this level- hair on the bathroom floor and in the shower. It seemed as though the cleaning staff was either rushed or simply not thorough because of so much work in the hotel. For the price, we expected a peaceful, clean environment, but instead, we left feeling frustrated and sleep-deprived. If you’re looking for a restful place to stay, we recommend finding another hotel until they finish the building work and improve their housekeeping standards, we have stayed here before and wont be returning. The only positive is the location, unfortunately we had stayed here prior and was excited to return. We were shocked at the lack of compassion from the team working at the hotel and again, the construction work which was certainly not reflected in the package we bought. Finally, upon check out they agreed (after us being upset) to a minimum of a 50% refund...we're still waiting.

Stay elsewhere — $$$ Stayed at the pennyweight a week ago with my brother, sister in law and husband during our vacation. The rooms are nothing special and the staff at the front were the least bit welcoming when we would come and go from the hotel. Upon leaving, I was told there was an issue with my sister in laws card, which I thought was strange because we booked this trip weeks in advance, but she was on her flight home at the time that we checked out, so I could not confirm in the moment. After paying the balance again, which I was told was what needed to happen, my sister in law got in touch with me and assured me that she had been charged and paid a month prior- so, I was scammed by the front desk. Since then, I have heard the situation is being looked into, but upon reaching out further, I have heard nothing. So it is a waiting game and I am currently out a significant chunk of money. A severe lack of urgency and communication from management to rectify this situation. Incredibly frustrating and suspicious. The only redeeming quality of this hotel is the location near TD garden- but I would definitely advise to go elsewhere!!

Not where you want to stay. This hotel started by telling us at checkin they take a $75 / night security deposit. To be re-credited to our account upon their review of our room at checkout. What kind of people are they servicing if they need security deposits? The room was small with a view of the brick wall next door. The bathroom was spacious with only one set of towels for each of us ( 2 people) and if we wanted the room serviced we had to tell the desk the night before. Hot water was sporadic. The morning we left it had to run for 10 minutes before it got hot. When I told the front desk, their reply was they will look into it. It’s obviously an ongoing issue as it had also happened the day before. The Restaurant was the size of our bedroom with only a few tables and chairs. I think the waiter was also the cook . We only ate breakfast there one morning. But I would never consider this a Restaurant and certainly would not have had dinner there. This place wasn’t cheap. But everything about it was. There was a refrigerator stocked with $6 bottles of water and some snacks that looked like they had been there forever. The neighborhood is iffy. I would not have walked around there at night as most of the properties surrounding it were vacant. It is close to the arena. But that’s the only thing I can say about it. The front desk staff was very nice, but I would never consider staying here again.
