Candlewood Suites Milwaukee Brown Deer by IHG

If you value your senses I would give this one a pass. The BAD: - The pillowcases and sheets somehow manage to smell both like feces and bleach, it is horrendous. - The bathroom fan does not work. -If you are in a suite, there is only one air unit which is in the main living area, there is a fairly loud fan in the wall that blows the cold air into the bedroom. It does not regulate temperature well so you have to keep the door open which is not ideal If there are people sleeping on the pull out sofa. - Normal or not, housekeeping only comes once a week and you have to bring your own towels downstairs in order to swap them out for clean ones. - There is an obnoxious buzzing noise (like a dryer or a million fluorescent lights) throughout the entryway and most of the downstairs common area. - The elevator smells like body odor. It’s just not peaceful or clean feeling here and we will definitely not be back. The Good; - The desk clerk was friendly and helpful - the suite layout and size was large and comfortable for our lengthy stay. (Currently still here) - wi-Fi connected quickly, which was great for work - someone put tape over the flashing light of the smoke detector, which would have been obnoxious since it’s in the bedroom. (on the downside, there was another piece of tape as well, so hopefully it wasn’t covering a sensor because people wanted to smoke here) - they provide a decent cooking area with pots and pans, plates, and utensils as well as a dishwasher. Always nice not to have to eat out every meal you are away and can enjoy some home cooking.

Business Customer Wrongfully Evicted My company stayed here and intended to stay long term while we look for housing. During our stay we found the AC did not work in which took well over 24 hours to get anyone to just look at it or make other accommodations. Upon my complaint the owner of the hotel chose to evict me. We weren’t being obnoxious, noisy nor doing anything illegal nor disruptive. Events we saw happening here were *Weed in hallways *Empty store pantry *Broken refrigerators *Cars broken into *Nasty rooms *Outdated building *Hot hallways *Broken washer and dryer *TV didn’t work *Rude Rude owner *Coffee condiments unavailable Evictions if you complain I’ve never stayed at an IHG hotel like this before. Been an IHG member since 2013

Good, Except for One Thing We stayed here once before 6 or 7 years ago and the rooms have had a nice update since. Mattresses are very comfortable. However, there is one BIG problem: right over the bed is a smoke detector. Every second or so, it flashes a bright green LED. Then once or twice a minute, two of these lights come on and stay on for about two seconds. You will see these lights All. Night. Long. We encountered this same problem in a different IHG property once and they were able to contact the alarm vendor to get this remedied. I hope this Candlewood can do the same, because I can't stay here again otherwise.

King 1 Bedroom Suite All the staff we encounter were both friendly and helpful. Any time we needed something they were on it, be it more towels, blankets, TP etc. Room was very clean upon arrival. We constantly saw housekeeping around inside as well as people cleaning garbage cans, table etc. in the outside patio area they have for hanging out, smoking or barbequing. They also have a small pantry up front in the hotel and free coffee so you don't really have to make it in your room. I noticed a cabinet with board games and appliances like crock pots, toaster ovens etc. that you can borrow. Overall this was a nice place and we enjoyed our stay. Only negative was that there was a rash of car thefts and break-ins at this hotel and in the area while we were there. It was scary thinking your car could be broken into or missing the next morning. I strongly believe if these hotels had working security cameras or better parking lot lighting that it would deter some of this activity. Possibly if they had a desk attendant overnight that would also help.

People Skills Seriously Lacking GM, Stacey, told us she would honor our Rewards reservations through the weekend (vs just Thursday) but once we were settled in our room we received 2 emails canceling a reservation & rebooking one night. We went to front desk & Stacey claimed she didn't reserve 2 nights for us but only 1. She claimed she did not have the ability to override Rewards for more than 1 night at a time. We reminded her that we stated our plane took off on Sunday & she said to go ahead & cancel our Germantown reservations for the weekend, which we did. This hotel is closest to my sick mother in a Port Washington nursing home so location is very important. We went back & forth & Stacey said she would discuss it with the owner & told us he said no, although the next morning the owner told us otherwise. We called the Germantown Holiday Inn Express & our reservation was no longer available. We missed a Friday night event because of the time spent with IHG trying to get help. IHG said it's up to GM. Many lies. In summary, both owner & IHG left us reserving a room for one more night up to Stacey. On Saturday when we checked one more time with front desk if they would honor our Saturday night stay because we didn't do anything wrong & they should accommodate us because they made a mistake that affects us & they said no, we made the errors even though the 2 of us witnessed the same thing. Then they said they were full even though online it stated there was availability. Unbelievably frustrating & we are chalking it up to the GM is a 'right fighter' regardless of the truth. The hotel was very comfortable & clean & we would stay here again but the lack of care & respect for us or where we were going to stay on Saturday night was unforgivable.
