A place with a great family vibe We were on a long drive to visit family and were in the vicinity of Carlyle IL when we started to get tired. Reserved a room without much knowledge and were delighted by the friendliness of the owners, the proximity of a beautiful lake with nice walking paths, and the pretty town with simple but nice places to eat a simple meal. Seems like families make this their headquarters for lake vacations: kids in the pool, bikes in the hallways. If you like a family atmosphere and friendly people, you'll be more than comfortable here.

Don't recommend I stayed here to attend a family wedding. Few issues with the hotel: 1) The thermostat was broken on the heater. At bedtime, I turned on the heater and set the temperature to 68 degrees. The kids and I woke up in the middle of the night sweating in a sauna like atmosphere. After shutting of the heater, I found out that the A/C also didn't work. I had to open the window and let the 35 degree fall air help to cool down the room. 2) There was trash in the ice bucket. 3) The alarm clock was broken. I couldn't set it to the proper time 4) The window in the hallway wouldn't close properly, which left a noticeably cold draft in the hallway and stairs. 5) Last, and biggest issue. The manager said he had problem with my comment that I do not plan to ever come back. He went on saying that they have 75% satisfaction rating (and showed me the certificate) and they have many customers who don't have issues with the place. He also stated that he had stayed at many high end hotels that also had many problems. He also proceeded to tell me that I even received a discount rate due to the wedding

Lovely Wedding Venue There are very few hotels around Carlyle Lake that can accommodate a wedding, particularly for a large family. The setting for the wedding at Mariner's Village was quite lovely. Honestly, the hotel was pretty basic, but the staff was very accommodating and helpful. Given the size of our family, this was no small thing. Thank you.

Worst stay ever!!!! I found a petrified hot dog in the microwave, i think it was a hot dog, the stove was so dirty unable to use it, mold in the shower, fridge door handle broken, furnishings were from a yard sale, Also was told over the phone $137.00 w tax for 2 nights, turns out it was $ 137.00 per night and got charged tax, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE IT IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR MONEY. TOTAL RIP OFF AND MANAGEMENT DOES NOT CARE.

Stay far away from this place. Dishonest and bad customer service Where to start... 1. We blocked off rooms here for our wedding. We asked him to block off 20, he said he did, and then somehow only 10 got blocked off. By the time we realized this the hotel was almost booked up and there was nothing we could really do about it, and we were just going to let it slide but then... 2. My husbands family booked three rooms well in advance, as part of our room block. They called and got it all set up, and when they arrived they only had one room. They asked the owner about this and he suggested that he could get 2 rooms at the other hotel in town (which I have not heard good things about). They ended up just cancelling their rooms and staying in Salem because of this. 3. When we blocked our rooms off we had to pay $50 and we were told it would go towards our room at check out. We stayed there the night of our wedding, and when we went to check out the owner was trying to tell us that this was not their policy. My husband was beyond pissed at him by this point, and had to argue with him about this to get the $50 applied to our room. He is completely dishonest and anything he says apparently can not be trusted. There is absolutely no way we misunderstood this because we asked and clarified on this several times as we got it set up. 4. One of our wedding guests booked a room here for the wedding outside of our room block on booking . Com , and when they showed up to check in there was no room for them. Apparently they “don’t honor booking . Com” The rooms were mediocre, nothing special but not horrible. But this place is so disorganized and unwilling to problem solve when they mess up, and they messed up a LOT. I would never recommend this place to anyone again, and apparently the same people own the other hotel in town too so I’d stay away from it as well. Stay in Salem or Centralia, cottages at Hazlet, or any other town because apparently the only two hotel options in Carlyle are owned by this dude and he was a freaking joke to work with. Awful. Don’t recommend. I forgot to mention this too, but one of the other rooms our guests stayed in had a bunch of spiders, so they also ended up staying elsewhere.
