Weekend stopover Upon arrival, the Reception staff were both courteous and helpful, and the room, clean and tidy. Dinner was very good, and the portions served could well be described as 'generous', whilst the waiter and waitress dealing with us, namely Colleen and Chris, could not have been more helpful and attentive. They are a credit to the Hotel. Our night's sleep was OK, apart from the annoying, and constant, hum emanating from the fan in the bathroom, combined with the faint buzzing from the air con unit, reminiscent to that of a mildly annoyed wasp, trapped within an upturned jam-jar. Awaking almost refreshed, we repaired to the dining room for our early morning repast. Breakfast was the usual buffet arrangement, but this only tends to work in polite, civilised society. However, as that was not the case during our stay, a certain number of guests, albeit a minority, had both porcine appetites and manners, attributes well befitting their statures, and it was deemed acceptable by them to each take between four and eight hash browns, a similar amount of sausages, and, a first for me, up end a serving dish of bacon onto their plate, before returning for 'seconds'. This resulted in the waiting staff having to continually try and keep up with a very tolerant queue for breakfast. Sadly, the tea was no better, and seldom benefits from a cup of luke warm water with a tea bag thrust within, whilst the purported 'orange' juice had barely seen an orange, let alone have some within it, and upon reluctantly tasting, it confirmed my suspicion that it was merely coloured water, and that is being generous with my appraisal. To be honest, one couldn't fault the staff and their attentiveness and hard work, combined with their tolerance of rude people, should be congratulated. All in all, and basing my review on cost, ambience, food and sleep, I would suggest that it offers good value for money and is comparable to similar hotels within the same price bracket. I would certainly stay there again if in the area.

awful breakfast experience We honestly didn't want to leave a review, however our experience of the breakfast was awful. Firstly, the fried/scrambled eggs were watery, the orange juice was tasteless and the overall service was poor. we asked to speak to the manager, and was notified that she wasn't available. we mentioned the issue to the staff, whom were very helpful and also rushed off their feet. They politely apologised and handled our complaint, and made sure we were all looked after until we finished. Finally when we left, we all thanked the waiters and decided to make a complaint at reception.

Disappointing breakfast Poor breakfast. Ran out of bacon - which is a major ingredient for traditional English. Waited for various trays to be replenished. Ended up with cold mushrooms and watery scrambled egg. Had to ask for gluten free bread - and while eating breakfast a chap with a weed killer walked past the open restaurant door busily spraying around the patio. I don’t think chemicals should be used around people trying to eat breakfast. Just lack of management.

Great Hotel A great hotel which is in an ideal location for exploring the Derbyshire Dales and East/West Midlands with a variety of bars and dining places within a 5 to 10 minute walk. We arrived earlier than expected and were kindly checked in straight away. We are staying in a double standard room which is spacious and airy with a really comfortable large bed. The breakfast is good as are the tea and coffee making facilities. All the staff are friendly and really helpful. We would definitely recommend and will return.
