We loved Durango! Durango was one of seven stops on our Southwest road trip. It is a very cool, friendly, outdoorsy, artsy kind of place. We stayed in a hotel that was walking distance from town, and enjoyed walking around town and on Durango’s beautiful river path. Everywhere we went, shopkeepers were friendly and engaging, as were total strangers! Durango is situated where the desert ends and the mountains begin. After driving through various red rock parks and deserts on our trip, we were thoroughly refreshed to be in greenery with flowing water! There are tons of independent shops and restaurants to choose from. Nothing “big box” about this downtown, but Durango does have some large stores if that’s what you’re looking for. We enjoyed the vibe of this town so much that we would return for a much longer time there.

Harvest Mode at the Hotel First the Durango Downtown Inn is closed forver, sold and has been turned into apartments. The date I put for staying there is incorrect, but you had to put a date. I believe the place closed at the end of September 2021. Some folks staying there actually got kicked out of their rooms at the end of the month. I still look for pics of the place to see what happened to it in it's conversion to apartments. My family stayed here several times when shutteling our son to summer camp in Durango, so I have some fond memories of the place and Durango. But what I really wanted to say is I ended up looking over a number of old reviews of this place and they all say basically the same thing, great location, poor service, broken stuff, smelly rooms, bad carpeting, needs a fix up, and overpriced for what it was. I felt the same over time and finially stopped staying at the Inn. I had the feeling when staying here there was a real lack of caring for the place by the staff and mostly the owner. I suspect he/she bought it, fixed it up a bit 30 years ago and then never put another dime into it knowing someday they would just sell it for the real estate value. And the lesson here is this was a hotel in harvest mode, milk it for what it is, invest nothing, and sell it. If you read reviews as I summarized about this place above, those are signs the long term prospects of a place may be limited.

I read they are out of business. I have stayed there in the past and reviewed here. good location, not great accommodations. For what is was overpriced. But does not matter because I read a review on another site which said they were out of business and being converted into apartments.

Filthy Don’t stay here if you are a germaphobe or you like cleanliness. No problems with noise; no problems with homeless people; no issues with parking. HOWEVER!!!! The room is in bad need of renovation such as painting, and updating. Bed is good but all I could think about, is the filth in the carpet I in bed with me. Loved the location; we were in the first room right across from the river and was pleasant. But @ Downtown Inn??? Please please please renovate, paint, take carpet out of pet friendly rooms so that people won’t mind paying you for your ideal location!!!!

Summer in Durango Great location but still had to drive everywhere. Very clean rooms even though Inn is old and needs updating. Stayed on the side of the river so very quiet. Staff were very friendly. Online reservation system was a rip off...could not change reservation and paid for an extra night. Be careful !
