DISGUSTING THEY HAVE BEDBUGS!!! WE STAYED FOR 4 DAYS, THE FIRST DAY THE SHEETS WERE DIRTY AND ALSO THE BATHROOMS SO THEY CHANGED US ROOMS BUT IN THE SECOND ROOM WE SAW BEDBUGS, THEY BIT US ALL OVER THE BODY. THEY DID NOT CLEAN THE ROOMS. I WASHED ALL MY THINGS BECAUSE THE BEDBUGS GOT INTO MY SUITCASE.

Ugh At 11:30 PM woke up to a dripping sound. There was water in a ceiling light fixture. The glass fixture was full of water and dripping into floor. Husband went down to front desk and told the clerk. Clerk said to pack everything up and come down to front desk. We did and then clerk said follow me to a different room. We took every thing back to the floor we were on, our new room was just across the hall. My husband discussed with the clerk in the morning. She said all she will do is give 10.00 dollars off. She said the room was an upgrade, we went from a king size room to a suite. Said the suite had new furniture and new paint. Actually the first room was nicer. The windows were not covered with plastic. Who at 11.30 at night cares if it is a suite and has new furnishings. Will not be back. Elgin has plenty of other motels when we are in the area.

A Window into Diminished Expectations at Hotels Post-Pandemic This has long been one of our favorite hotels. When in the area for a number of years we have made a point to stay here, but the last time we visited was pre-pandemic. Because we have been so many times, it does provide a good window into how hospitality in general has quietly reduced what it gives its customers in the past few years. We loved this hotel for the little things, like the bowl of fresh apples in the lobby (gone), the daily housekeeping service (also gone) and having the staff help find a tray to take breakfast items back to the room for a sleeping partner (now posted with signs not to take food from the breakfast room). We were particularly disappointed that one of our favorite things-- the hot tub-- has been removed. We're something of hotel hot tub connisseurs and we considered the one at Country Inn to be one of the best, so it was a treat each tour to be able to stay here and a disappointment that it is gone. County Inn is still a clean, comfortable and quiet place to stay so I would still recommend it, but we also decided that since it is not quite the experience we remember we're going to try shopping around in the area a bit and see if there might be a place we like as much or better.
