Don’t waste your money. We arrived around 10pm for one night. Immediately, the room was ice cold. the thermostat on the wall was set at 68. It was mid 50’s outside. we could only get cold air even after setting it to HEAT 78 degrees. We waited a few minutes for it to change over, still cold air. We shut it down which was not easy. Called front desk. Explained. She was very polite. Told her we’d wait a few minutes then try for heat again. She offered a new room if it was still too Cold. We were in our pjs already. Tried again, no heat. We decided to huddle undercover and looked forward to “breakfast included”. When I pulled down the bedspread, it saw a big stain or oil spot or wet spot. Couldn’t figure out what it was but it wasn’t actively moist…but a died stain. Had to question why anyone would put that sheet on a guest bed, how could you miss it? We were so exhausted after a 3.5hr drive, I put a towel over it and got in bed feeling uneasy. Nice hot shower in a tub that desperately needs new hardware if not replacement. Rust3d, chipping pitted chrome. Breakfast..a big disappointment. Bagel, toast, English, some cereal, Juice, yogurt, milk, and an automatic pancake making machine. You get four of them…rubber comes to mind. Plus all the condiments…, butter, cream cheese, syrup, jelly’s, as well as oranges, apples and a bowl of hard boiled eggs. No scrambled, no bacon, no omelette, no links, no waffle machine…just cold hard-boiled eggs in water. Not what we’d call “breakfast”. More continental… We’ve travel a lot and stayed at many Wyndham’s around the country, but this one damages their hotel brand. We will not be back and suggest you don’t even bother.

Were given room keys to 2 occupied rooms after ash on 1st room bed *warning to future guests* I arrived at the hotel just before midnight. We checked in and were given our room key. We entered our room and found what appeared to be ash covered all over the bed and pillows. I contacted the front desk and was told to come down and we would be given a new room. We went back to the front desk to find the front desk employee left to meet us in our room. This began a cat and mouse chase. She eventually returned and gave us a new room and key. We went to the new room and the key card wouldn’t work. After a few tries the door open from INSIDE and a person is staring at us. The room we were given was OCCUPIED. It is now well after midnight. We go back to the front desk and explain what happened. She gives us a new room and key. This is now a third room we are trying. Again, the key does not work. We go back to the desk and explain. The employee comes with us to open the room with her master key. She opens the door and the latch from INSIDE the room is keeping the door shut. The room is again OCCUPIED. The woman in the room slams the door shut, yells at us and then wips the door open and is staring at us. The employee is half way down the hall leaving us to explain what is going on. The employee now tries a 4th room that she inspects herself before giving us a new key for. Thankfully this room is vacant!! We get into our room and thankfully it has a clean bed. The room has no lamps next to the bed, a broken fan and a pill on the floor. Never again!

Economic Hotel that Has Unfortunately Seen Better Days A very mixed review. My wife stayed one night ahead of me and said her room was so bad that she asked to be moved to a different room. Her complaints included the smell and the carpet. To the hotel's credit, she was moved to a better room that didn't smell and had a nicer carpet. Still, this hotel shows its age. I've previously stayed in Hadley at the Courtyard, the Hampton Inn and the Choice across the street. All were way more expensive for this trip by a couple of hundred dollars, so we opted for the Howard Johnson as all we needed was a place to stay. The hotel still has bathtubs, which was great. But the hotel is way past its prime and I fear that even a massive makeover isn't going to help this property. We did get a comfortable night's sleep, but I can't recommend the hotel. That said, you'll possibly wind up here anyway if the choice comes down to room or no room! The Amherst/Northampton area is home to many colleges and cultural institutions/events, so it gets busy (and pricey) at certain times of the year. So, despite my less-than-enthusiastic review, it's possible that I'll be back based on price. Parking is free, which is no longer a given at many hotels. Breakfast was included, but this was as basic a breakfast as one could possibly expect. Bring very reduced expectations, dial it back a notch and you won't be disappointed. Again, things get busy in the Amherst area and hotel prices rise accordingly. Don't make this your first choice, but if you have to stay, know what you're getting into. Hotel staff at the front desk were very nice, efficient and accommodating.
