Beautiful and Friendly The absolutely beautiful location and low key atmosphere of HCR is only surpassed by the friendly staff. Chawake and her team at the front desk were most accommodating and kind, as was Doug who shuttled us around and provided great local knowledge. Love to return!

An amazing, magical place…perfect for couples! This resort is a true gem at the end of the road on the North Shore. There is something magical about being able to soak up the peace and solitude of the ocean while having everything you need for a comfortable stay. We stayed three nights in B2, and it was just dreamy…ocean views, cooling breezes and a laid back vibe. The resort and its staff goes above and beyond to take care of its staff, with comfortable bedding/furnishings, a beautiful pool house and friendly service. We had our two children with us and felt very welcomed, but I would love to return for a trip with my husband to really embrace the romance and peace of this special place. One of my favorite moments each day of our stay was sitting on the lanai after dark in one of the resort’s comfy robes, looking at the stars and enjoying the sound of the crashing waves. The ocean is a little rough and wild right by the resort, but the beach is very walkable, beautiful and a fun adventure for kids or couples. We loved the on-site coffee shop/art gallery, and would love to return to try the on-site restaurant and day spa. We visited during July and had a 15-20 minute drive to Hanalei depending on traffic. The resort has a shuttle which will drive you into town, as well as to other popular beach spots where parking can get tricky. The HCR is truly spectacular, and will make your visit to the North Shore unforgettable.

Beautiful beach oasis near Hanalei Bay This gorgeous beach-side resort has everything you need for an outstanding vacation. We stayed for eight days in early June (2024), and the weather was great. We would absolutely come back next summer. It’s not a “resort” in the sense of a traditional hotel (like in nearby Princeville). We rented this sport via AirBNB (through Kauai Kahuna). And you really will not get the day-to-day house-cleaning that some visitors would expect, but those are not necessary. Reading through some of the reviews on Trip Advisor, it appears some guests were very disappointed with some of the “housekeeping” accommodations, but we loved not having to worry about any hotel employees traversing into our space. It’s essentially a vacation rental, not a “hotel” or true resort. These are built like modest condo units (in two-story buildings) and they’re right on the water, where you are just west of Hanalei Bay, an ideal spot if you want to get away from crowds. You can very easily navigate along the island at your own pace. This resort had a shuttle, only available to those renting through the resort (not through the AirBNB), but we rented a car from the Lihue Airport. This place is very easy to walk to various beaches (15 min. walk to Tunnels Beach, and a 10-minute drive to Hanalei Bay). Renting a car was a very wise decision on our part. The local beach setting here is just fantastic. Please note, this beach just outside of the resort isn’t terribly swimmable. But the very-nearby-beaches are quite gorgeous and swimmable. About the resort's accommodations – great pool & jacuzzi, BBQ station, on-site coffee shop & art gallery and a day spa. There is one restaurant directly on site, named the Opakapaka Grill & Bar (but better dining options are in Hanalei Bay). Parking at this resort was easy. They do have an office with business hours, and they were very friendly/helpful. There are employees on-site who can assist with regular items you'd need, but most guests are fairly self-sufficient. Our one-bedroom upstairs unit had a nice balcony with an ocean view, a furnished kitchen, one room with a good-sized closet and a desk, and another living room with a small TV and a sofa (and four-seat dining room table). Good tip – stock up on food at the Princeville Foodland (grocery store). It’s a 15-minute drive, and Foodland has everything you’d see in a market on the mainland U.S. We brought in a bunch of groceries (fridge/freezer was great) and cooked our breakfasts and lunches there. Hanalei Bay has some really good dinner options if you want to go out. The bathroom was clean. The resort provides towels (both for bathroom and to take to the beach), as you would see in any traditional hotel. The bed was very comfortable. This unit does not have air conditioning, but really, it’s not needed. They have windows that help with air-flow and three ceiling fans through the unit (easy to operate, helps to cool down rooms if temps get up into the 80s). This was a beautiful place to stay for a week-long trip to the northern shore of Kauai. We highly recommend staying here and we’ll likely book this location again. It’s everything you’re looking for if you’re an adult who just wants to get away from the crowds of a more touristy location.

North Shore Sprit Haena is a special place for us. Our room was steps from the beach with spectacular views of the Bay and Princeville across the Bay. The best part of the trip was getting to know the local staff. Special shout-out to Tida, Lei Hua, Erlette and Chawaki and also Jeff and Greg at the Opakapaka Grill. They made us feel at home. Mahalo to all. Todd and Kathleen.

Incredible location, wonderful staff, amazing vibes! We had a wonderful 8 day stay at HCL and hope to return someday soon. The resort was everything we hoped it would be. Just a little north of all the tourist bustle, the HCL is a tranquil and gorgeous property that had every amenity our family of 4 could have needed. The room was very comfortable and spacious, great beds. Although there’s no phones and cell service is patchy, the wifi was strong and kept us in contact with family back home. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything and we saved a bit on food by cooking some meals there thanks to the local farmers markets and Hanalei Big Save market. Auntie Lei and her “nieces” were a joy to be around. Helpful, funny, and informative. They were some of the most chill staff I’ve interacted with anywhere. If you are curious about something just ask! Keith the shuttle driver was super cool and talked good story, he was flexible and willing to drive us the 5 minutes up to Tunnels on a moments notice. We lost our room key the night before we checked out and the staff was very cool and understanding. I will say that “contactless” just means they don’t clean your room daily. Seems to be very common at hotels post Covid. Our room had a broom and some cleaning supplies so we kept it up ourselves. Since we stayed a week, we had maid service once while we were out but for some reason they only changed the king bed, not the other two. This was a bit odd but the place was overall so awesome it didn’t matter to us. Restaurant on site was meh. Coffee shop is great. Quick trip to town or beaches. Or just relax and enjoy the pool and serene vibes. Thank you HCL magical and memorable vacation. And mahalo for sharing your home and island paradise with us. Sending love from California.
