Exceeded expectations We decided late to travel to Houston and found the Hilton near the Convention Center booked. I looked at Trip Advisor for a highly rated property and settled on this Hampton Inn. We were not disappointed. It provided us with easy back roads to the Convention Center, Fine Arts Museum etc. and we were able to avoid busy expressways. But for those who want to go that route, it is nearby. Also, we enjoyed the close Down the Street restaurant and bar, a relaxing neighborhood place. We failed to read that maid service would not be provided unless by request. That was provided the next day, but the management went beyond expectations in seeing that we were satisfied. This is a clean, wonderfully located facility, and with management that cares about its guests. Thank you.

no digital key as advertised The staff was friendly but the digital key did not work. First night, desk clerk said it was an ongoing issue which prompted me to report it to Hilton customer service. Property manager called and emailed the next day saying they were "working on the problem and would notify me when fixed". It never was fixed so I cited the 100% Hampton Guarantee. “Making you happy makes us happy. So, if we can make your stay better, talk to any member of our team, and we’ll make sure you’re 100% happy. GUARANTEED”. Apparently means whatever they want it to mean as there is no real policy. All I can really guarantee is I left unhappy. Had no real other issues with the property. Deadbolt did not work but they fixed it when reported. AC worked. Shower water pressure was a little light but I don't suppose they have any control over that. Wasn't unhappy with the room or the property other than access. Access to the property is tricky as you have to go through Denny's parking lot but it is fairly well marked. The gated parking lot (accessed with a code or your room key I presume) is clumsy. Front parking lot and Denny's parking lot were full when I arrived which caused me to sit parked at the gate while I called and got the code from the hotel. Counted 5 cars waiting behind me before I gained access. That information could have been included in the "information for your stay" email I received prior to arrival. If contactless check in and digital key aren't important, it's not a bad property.

OK, but Odd location Stayed here for a week while traveling for work. I like the area, there are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores nearby. The hotel itself is in an odd location. It's wedged into a back lot behind a Denny's, so you have to drive through the Denny's parking lot to get to the hotel. The entrance/exit to street is also situated at an odd angle, it's almost impossible to do anything but make a right turn when exiting to the street. The rooms are aligned to that you will either have a room facing a busy street/freeway, or a room facing busy railroad tracks. Trains run all day/night/morning. My room was clean, but the TV didn't work great, the picture kept freezing and pixilating, there's no channel guide so you just have to switch through what's on. There is a mini fridge in the room, but no microwave, and no microwave in the lobby for guests to use.

Good Value The location is convenient, just off I-10 west and next to a 24 hour Denny's. It can be a little difficult to get in an out because the hotel doesn't have a separate entrance to the street. You have to go through the Denny's lot which is right next to an overflow space for a popular Mexican restaurant. The staff is pleasant and the breakfast is wonderful. The room was very clean. I appreciated the fact that they didn't skimp on towels and linens. My only real concerns were the inability to close the blackout curtains all the way and the fact that the remote was missing from the room. But overall, it was a good deal.
