Depending on your standards - important things clean, other things dirty and outdated. If this is normal for a 2 Star hotel, I will never stay at a 2 star again. There is no pride shown by the employees. OK for 1 night. Whirlpool was not on (they said because the weather had been hot and they were afraid people would "over do it and get overheated". Like most lower rated hotels, really needs an updating. Room: Had pet room, so flooring was tile/vinyl a plus. Out dated, but basics were clean (bedding-however bedspread came off immediately, bathroom). But needs a GOOD DEEP CLEAN and some TLC. Doors were sticky (room and building entry), light switches filthy-gross, 1 bath towel/wash cloth/hand towel per person, no kleenex but a spot for it. Breakfast: Not many selections, white bread/toast, mini donuts (white sugar only) 2 dry cereals, yogurt (only blueberry), butter, (grape only) jelly, mini waffle maker, bananas, juice/coffee/milk. The best was the larger REFRIGERATOR. Had a freezer compartment (however the door was broken off). I was able to refreeze our cooler ice packs. We were pre-paid in full. However they were ready to charge me. We have service dogs, which I showed documentation. When checking my credit card, I saw I was charged a pet fee. Called, employee stated service dog or not, they charge (illegal). Transferred to a manager and the charge was reversed. He said good employees are hard to get to stay. Milk was empty in breakfast room (at 7:00am). Went to front desk, no one there, rang bell. Then noticed a worker smoking (immediately in front of entrance door). Made eye contact, and it was obvious I was waiting at desk. She finished her cigarette and then came in to help me. In summary: Would not stay here again. Was ok, quiet, but just to old and run down for me. But important stuff was clean. Breakfast was adequate.

Odd cancellation saved from a terrible stay. Housing homeless project. I booked a room at the Econo Lodge, La Crosse early Sept for a mid Oct stay with a large group due to a group rate. Upon check in I was told my reservation was not in the system. Not sure what happened in the system but either way I had to book somewhere. They still had one room left so I was going to book until they gave me a total of $331 for one night. Normally, I would suck it up and pay the amount but this was in no way a $300 a night hotel let alone $150. Since it was the last room, they were not willing to honor the group rate. The place was outdated and there were "sketchy" people hanging out outside. We did not feel very safe, especially after someone from our group came out to complain that his room lock was broken and hanging off. We heard the clerk tell him that it was okay and would still lock. After his insistence that it be repaired, someone was sent to repair the lock. We also received complaints from some of our group about the poor condition of their rooms. After searching the area my husband and I found a room at a different hotel less than 10 mins away. Upon check in at the new hotel we were informed that Econo Lodge is one of a few hotels in the area that are part of the city program to house the homeless, hence the few rooms available and the unsafe feeling. This is not something that is made public but after a quick google search, sure enough, a few articles popped up proving this information to be true. Even though Econo is not making this public my husband and I feel that it is important that a potential guest be aware of this when making a decision on where to stay. Mainly due to the fact that they make it seem like these rooms are in high demand so they can charge a premium.

Great Owners This was a great stop. The place is kept up and the carpets are newer. The sink is outside the bathroom, which I like. But most of all, the owner is kind and accommodating. I had a few small problems checking in, and he was very helpful.

Room smelled like smoke Room smelled like smoke. Will never stay here again. Also there were overflowing garbage cans out in the hallways never picked up. Used towels laying in the hallway to be picked up by staff. I understand staffing may be an issue but the room smell alone

Dirty and run down I genuinely hate to give a one-star review. I stayed here on a summer weekend so there wasn't a lot of availability around town, and I don't need a lot from a value hotel to be satisfied. Sadly, this place needs work. The staff was WONDERFUL but the property needs serious maintenance support from management or corporate. The window AC unit didn't work in my first room, there was a hole in the wall, and huge cracks in the ceiling. The central AC can't keep up with the hallway - it was warm and muggy. The AC unit worked in my second room, but there was a huge puddle in the bathroom where the toilet tank leaked, the sink was slow to drain, and the toilet clogged. The breakfast (which I didn't have huge expectations for either) was chaotic, poorly organized/laid out, and pretty slim pickings. I hope this hotel gets some attention from corporate because the friendly staff deserves to work somewhere they can be proud of without having to deal with customer maintenance issues.
