Excellent Customer Service I had reserved a block of rooms for a August wedding. I worked with Kristen and she was fantastic. She returned call, ansered questions and was fast and friendly. When we had to cancel due to COVID, she was very helpful. While we didn't end up staying here, the customer service was excellent.

Close to Shopping The hotel is about a 15-minute drive from the airport and 10 minutes from the Capital and 15 minutes to Michigan State University. There is an outdoor shopping mall about a 5-minute walk with many restaurants and stores. There was also a Sam’s Club and a Walmart that is 10-minute walk from the hotel. The room was large and modern. The pull-out desk was nice for catching up on work and a large TV that was ready for casting your favorite shows. The internet connected quickly but was a little slow at times. You can purchase internet with faster speeds for $5 a day. The best part of the room was the bed which was both soft and firm with many pillows to include feather and cotton. The bathroom was a shower with a tub. The hotel has a bistro that serves as both a coffee station with food in the morning and food and drinks in the evening. There are many places to sit and hangout with friends and colleagues. There is also a small pantry for last minute snacks on the go. The hotel also has coin laundry, an indoor pool, and a fitness room. The fitness room had cardio machines and was medium sized for the size of the hotel. At the time of my stay all facilities were closed except for the laundry room. Also, there is no shuttle service. Local restaurants were open with 50% seating capacity.

Lipstick on a Pig The building's exterior and lobby make you think you're staying at a new, modern hotel. Then you step into your room and are transported back 20+ years. Hotel staff was helpful. We arrived in our room to find no refrigerator. After calling the front desk, it took about 20 minutes before maintenance showed up with one for us to use.

Would not recommend Not up to par on typical Courtyard Marriott expectations and experiences, so don’t be fooled like I was - I trusted the name brand when I booked and this is not remotely like other locations. Room seems sort of updated, but things like the windows are not. Road noise from the highway is almost unbearable. I could have paid more for a different room located on the “courtyard side” of the hotel and in hindsight I should have. The location is convenient for my business travel but I will be trying one of the other hotels nearby in the future

Probably one of the worse experiences in an hotel, ever This is long – I apologize – so was our weekend. SIGH. We stayed here on my husband’s business trip. I love going along on weekends when he has to work – I stay in the hotel and take advantage of some “me time”. The good: We arrived about 1:30 the first day and were able to check in immediately. My husband immediately left for his business plans. I started to settle in and discovered that the carpet was filthy (food crumbs on the floor and a few small screws I stepped on in bare feet). We had a king suite. The room barely resembles the photos on the hotel website. The room was practically devoid of furniture! (The website does state “Room images may not correspond to the actual room received.” Wow, truer words were never written!) The only chair in either room was the desk chair. The only place to open a suitcase was on the sofa or bed – the tables were obviously too flimsy. On one wall there was the sofa and ottoman and the little (nasty looking) beverage table, one wall with a small window, the wall opposite the sofa had a long desk with the TV above it, a small set of drawers, and the fourth wall had the “kitchen” area – NOT a wet bar as was shown and described, but merely a counter with a mini fridge that was only cold because of the ice buildup in the back. The fourth wall also had another desk that had a lamp on it. Two of the legs of this desk were loose and bent inward under it – obviously broken. There was no microwave, as described. The mini fridge almost fell over when I mistakenly tried to open it from the wrong side. The only lamp in the entire 2-room suite did not work, and the room was exceptionally dark, so getting comfortable on the sofa and reading was out. While there are bedside lights, personally I don’t care to sit in bed and read in street clothes. I then chose to sit at the sturdier desk and work but eventually had to move to the broken one because the heat/air conditioner was blowing very cold air, hot air, then very cold air right on me and it was bothering my eyes. (The heat/air unit in the bedroom did not work at all, but we chose not to report it since we would have only turned it off anyway.) When my husband returned in the evening, we took the light bulb to the front desk and they replaced it – we found that the lamp still did not work but it was late the first night so waited until morning to report it. They said they would send maintenance. The second day, we had breakfast at The Bistro on site, which was decent. It was our only meal there because it was only open for breakfast. My husband chose this particular hotel based on the fact that he knew he would be late getting back to the room both days, I would be without transportation and we could have dinner and/or drinks there. The note on the counter stated that occupancy for the New Year’s weekend was low, so they were not going to be open except for breakfast. Apparently, this Courtyard doesn’t consider the few customers they DO have to be worthy of stated amenities. No wonder their occupancy was low. I waited all day the second day for housekeeping – I heard them go to the rooms on either side of us (paper thin walls) and saw the cart both times so I know it exists (although I never heard a vacuum). I wanted to ask for 2 pillows and maybe an extra blanket (the room had no extras). No housekeeping. Maintenance came at 7:10 pm and ended up switching out the lamp with one in another room. A little late to enjoy a day of reading on the sofa. I mentioned the broken table and the man just shrugged. Oh … there were only 2 decaf coffee packets in the room, so we asked for regular and were told they were out and waiting on a shipment. (One wonders if this is to force guests to purchase the Starbucks coffee if and when the Bistro is open.) On checkout, the front desk asked how we enjoyed our stay – we told them about how awful it was. The only comment was, “Sorry”. This was the MOST unenjoyable, uncomfortable 2-day stay in a hotel that I’ve ever suffered through. I am honestly shocked that we stayed at the same hotel as other reviews on Marriott's own website seem to be perfectly fine. Marriott’s website will only allow a review to be left if you receive a Guest Satisfaction Survey and reviews are moderated. Wow. This could explain the glowing reviews there. We have stayed at Courtyards for over 20 years and have always been very happy with everything. THIS was horrible. Dirty, dark, and uncomfortable. I felt like I spent 2 days in a cave. Frankly, we intend to never stay at a Courtyard again – and probably avoid the entire Marriott chain. It was that bad.
