Weird pre-stay charges and unresponsive hotel I don't t know what the experience of staying at this hotel is like, but something weird/scammy happened right after I booked and so I thought I'd write my review to warn others. I booked at Excelsior for a trip in April 2026. The moment I booked, I started getting emails from the hotel asking if I wanted connecting rooms with someone else for $20 plus tax (this was a solo trip). I said no and they did not reply. Instead, they started trying to charge my card, which I found very unusual. I am a frequent traveler and this was a refundable booking.com reservation for a trip that would take place the following year, and I was never informed when I made the booking that the hotel would charge me anything sooner. So I started getting a bunch of failed attempts to charge my card $114 with no other description than "exc - adv dep", which I imagine must have meant "Excalibur - advance deposit". Thankfully, my bank blocked these charges because there were so many of them, flagging them as a security issue. I then got an email from booking that asked me to update my card because the hotel said it was "not valid". I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, in case this was simply an advance payment for my (refundable!) reservation, so I updated the booking with another card, and I got that email from booking again saying that this card was "not valid" too - I didn't get any communication from my bank about failed attempts to charge me, so I don't know how they decided that it wasn't valid. I then updated it again with a card in USD, and the same thing happened. Throughout all this (which happened over the course of 3 days), I had sent the hotel multiple emails that were all completely ignored. So at the third card that they deemed "not valid" is when I decided to cancel my reservation. At this point, I'm thankful Excalibur wasn't able to charge me, because it all felt very scammy to me. I can't know for sure if this is simply a matter of poor communication (them not informing me of how they would charge me when I booked + the complete lack of response to my emails), combined with a way of charging cards that doesn't sit well with international card perhaps, or if it was an attempt to get money from me that I would never see again. I haven't stayed at this hotel, so I can't know what the experience would have been like. But this lack of transparency and response raised a huge red flag for me, on top of the extra stress of this whole experience, and if I were you, I would stay elsewhere.

Thumbs down. Straight up, this place sucks. I would have cancelled but I purchased through hotels.com which makes it near impossible. I asked the woman at the front desk if I would be able to check in early as I got into town at 4am. She said they had plenty of rooms and could get me. Checked in around 9am. Ok, a 5 hour wait sucks but I can do it. 9M rolls around, I go to check in and the OTHER lady at the desk, says “ no she never said that, check in starts at 3”. 3?!?! So I have to sit around the lobby for 11 hours to get checked into a hotel with planty of available rooms?? If I knew it would be a problem 11 hour wait I definitely would have just went elsewhere. I just need a bed and a shower, I can get that at Motel 6. Not to mention she was super snotty earlier when I asked about laundry.

Good Hotel for a good price. The Hotel might be one of the oldest on the strip but very handy for the bus route and easy walking to other Hotels. Luchie on the front desk is always helpful and Happy.
