Amazing opportunity for a visit! La Tour Rose was one of the most fun and interesting spots in all of Europe during our 5 weeks there! The Tower itself is famous in the Old Town, as one of the beautiful inner courtyard highlights, and our room was just off it. It was the most spacious room we had all summer, and was filled with art and light. The proprietor was incredibly accommodating and helpful about absolutely everything, from where to eat, to how to tour all the local courtyards of the Old Town, how to get to all the highlights, etc. A fabulous find!

"Reaccommodated" prior to arrival Due to this particular weekend being very highly booked, this hotel decided it would be a profitable exercise to cancel my booking and presumably replace me with a couple offering more. I'd recommend avoiding this potentially happening to you.

Beautifully and interestingly decorated, Attentive Service, Brilliant location The interior of this hotel has the actual, striking architectural features of Lyon's Old Town. The rooms are each unique and have wonderful, period furniture. It was a great pleasure to be in these surroundings. The staff were kind and attentive, and the prices for the accommodation very reasonable for the wonderfully convenient location in the heart of Lyon's Old Tow. I don't know what the negative reviews are about - perhaps they are from people who want a Holiday Inn experience everywhere?

Extremely disappointing! We had already been in this hotel 10 years ago, and only on thing has changed. THE PRICE! Incredibly expensive for an old, not at all maintained hotel. Bath tubs are dirty, walls paint is falling, light in the rooms very limited and specially, very poor quality of service. Supposedly a four stars hotel with not even a bottle of water in the room. I can only say: avoid waiting your money on this hotel

A very sad experience, we will never come back. We had stayed in this hotel some years ago and loved it although even then it was showing signs of deterioration. This visit has been a bad experience from start to finish, almost the only redeeming feature being the helpfulness of most of the staff who are obviously trying their best against all the odds. We did encounter one rather unhelpful woman as previously mentioned in Alisa's review. She apparently didn't or wouldn't speak English, rather strange on the desk of a four star hotel….. and was not at all apologetic about the fact that our room had not been cleaned although we had been out for some hours and had returned for a siesta. We had arrived very late the previous day after a delayed flight, and were shown to a room which would perhaps be acceptable in a two star hotel. The bed was up a flight of stairs and as we are an elderly couple was unsuitable. The night porter was very kind and showed us two more rooms one of which we accepted as we were so tired. The following morning we were shown another room which we might have moved to but for the lack of decent furnishings….. an open cardboard 'wardrobe' in front of the window in the main bedroom and a set of cardboard, yes, cardboard drawers. We eventually opted to stay in the room we had spent the night in largely because the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The room smelt of stale air and there was no cold water in the bath for our whole stay, the tap seemed to have been removed and we were told to use the shower when filling the bath, a four star hotel…..? The lavatories could also do with modernising they are cramped and unappealing. The decor and art work throughout what we have seen of the hotel might be suitable for a hostel, tasteless, amateur and totally uninteresting, plus dreadful colour schemes that do nothing to compliment what was a beautiful old building. The 'silk' of the curtains is torn and the whole place feels as if it is run on a shoe string. Breakfast at 18€ was not good enough, coffee was cold, there was no hot milk nor any cereals available, the cheeses looked revolting and quite unsuitable for breakfast. There are minimal staff, not nearly enough for the needs of the guests. The Wifi is free but variable. We did not eat in the restaurant this time , it no longer has a star but the dining room is beautiful, elegant and modern. I think it must be under different management from the hotel? This has been a sad experience and we will never come back in spite of the location. Definitely no longer a four star hotel.
