Lovely, quiet boutique hotel We loved this hotel. The rooms (or at least the double rooms) are big, with plenty of space for two huge American suitcases, and the bathroom was big too, with enough space for all the toiletries that I haul around. The rooms are all cinema-themed, which I thought was very cool. We had the Hitchcock room. The décor in the lobby was also a lot of fun. Beds were comfortable, staff were all very friendly and helpful. We paid for breakfast, and that was good too -- standard meats, cheeses, pastries, cereal, etc., but very good, and it was set up well so that there wasn't a lot of crowding even when a lot of people were there. The only bad thing is that it was quite warm, and our room A/C wasn't working. I didn't even say anything about this to the staff because I think that's fairly common; it was early May and they may not have turned it on yet. But we opened the windows and let the night air cool the room off, and that was fine. It didn't detract from our stay at all. It's in Salamanca, and not the busy part of Salamanca either, so it is very quiet. The downside is that you have to walk or take the metro to do much of anything. But the metro is easy to navigate and the weather was nice for walking, and we really, REALLY valued the quiet. If you're a party person who likes to be around crowds, you would be better served staying closer to Plaza Mayor. All in all: lovely. We'll stay here again if we're in Madrid.

Nice stay away in a quirky hotel I thought this hotel was a bit quirky and original - a retro feel that's quite Clockwork Orange, but the whole hotel is film-themed so you're bound to find some tricky cinematic references around the place. Check-in was good - they had all my details, the receptionist spoke good English and everything was pretty well-organised. Each time I passed by reception they were friendly and polite, a good sign for travellers to Madrid. My room had a roaring 20's speak-easy gangster feel to it; initially dark upon entry (they keep the curtains closed) but the soft blue light and furniture all adds to the wall decoration and general room theme. I found the room stifling at times, even with the aircon on (I kept it on a low setting just to make the nights a bit more bearable) but didn't realise until later I could have opened a window. Wifi worked well up in the room (and down in the bar) but it was an annoyance there's no bedside power points - I ended up stretching a cable across the bed to charge my mobile devices. The bathroom was okay - clean and functional shower and toilet - with a sink outside this room adjoining a wardrobe, a different design to what I'm used to but worked fine. Breakfast was fairly basic but sufficient; I wasn't expecting a huge mass there but the assortment of cereals, fruit, juices and meats (continental style) plus some Spanish touches set me up for the day. I didn't spot many condiments and when asking about pepper the waiter curtly replied "it must be out"... they have ONE pepper pot for the entire restaurant? Based upon that presumption, I didn't eat there at nights (and each night I returned I noticed the restaurant near-deserted) so I'm guessing I didn't miss much. A good stay away (and I've stayed here before back in May) but I'm not sure I'd recommend eating here.

Booked online and it exceeded expectations A fun place to stay. Each room has a different cinema theme with cinema related image on room doors. We stayed for 3 nights. The rooms were spacious and had very comfortable bed. Restaurant was reasonably priced, had escellent food and the staff worked hard and were very friendly. I wouldn't normally aim to eat in a hotel restaurant but we chose to do so and decided to continue because we enjoyed it the first time when we arrived

The worst coffee in the whole of Madrid! The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable and my room was very quiet; I could not hear any noise from the street even though it faced Principe de Vergara. The decor is really not to my taste. To me, the most disappointing thing was the breakfast: a poor selection for a 4 star hotel, with undrinkable coffee out of a machine. I asked for a proper coffee, as they do have a coffee machine at the bar, and they charged me for it. I told the lady in reception that I felt it was wrong to be charged for a coffee at breakfast time but nothing happened. The next day I tried the tea for a change but it was even worst than the coffee. When I went to check out on the last day, they wanted to charge me for the coffee I had had a couple of days earlier. I told the lady in reception that I would pay it but I felt it was really wrong to have to pay for a coffee at breakfast in a 4 start hotel.

2 star hotel Rooms are basic to say the least. No tea or coffee facilities. Fridge lights up the room at night. On main road so noisy. All this would be fine if the cost was relative. It's not. Breakfast only starts at 7.30 and I was checked out a long time before that. There are many better options.
