Swimming The swimming is absolutely brilliant, the staff are so friendly and helpful, especially Joe and Zara. The actual pool and changing rooms need a refurbish though.

Stay from Hell The Mercure Maidstone is a disgrace. Room was above the fitness suite and all you could smell was chlorine. The cleaners need to clean properly not just around the edges. Kitchen staff especially Head chef Andy was Rude and really needs to learn to cook. Apart from the waiting/ function staff all the rest were rude including all the management.especially Nina. I’ve lived in Maidstone for most of my life and it’s a shame to see the once fine hotel deteriorate to its current appalling appearance and standing. Needs a serious major update.

our nightmare stay Been coming to this hotel for over a decade standards have fallen drastically over the years mainly due to poor management/ownership changes not investing in guests comfort. I came with my 88 year-old mother and 10 year old-son both of whom have respiratory, asthma and severe health issues for my mother's 89th birthday; they made us all travel up two flights of stairs only for everybody (including me) to get out of breath for the only fridge in the whole hotel. If I collapsed on the stairs my family would be stuck I'm their sole carer. After getting to the frustrating point of stating that if we weren't moved rooms and provided with fridge (for essential numerous medicines) we would cut short our stay; was something done about this. It was delayed reactive response not proactive forward planning This isn't a 4 star hotel, it's below 3 stars which I find apalling- rooms dusty and unclean- highlighted with housekeeping, no air conditioning which if money was spent can be done, had no sleep suffering from heat stress, which isn't what a special occasion should be, it was ruined, food menu very limited and unimaginative particularly for vegetarian, no organised activities for children, and too over priced. Breakfast cold and took time as limited staff, food items missing and run out with excuses down to whoever orders the food. Gardens messy- cigarette stubs everywhere and furniture not clean, main attractions of peacocks and chess have been removed. Unlike previous years, nothing special organised for my mum despite knowing in advance it is a birthday celebration. Management really need to listen to guests and actually do something in real terms by actually making changes needed- more action less talk . I've for many years put off writing such a low review hoping things would improve over time but it hasn't as many guests are saying the same problems exist. I can see that more efforts are being given to conference guests and wedding guests where big money is coming into the hotel rather than other guests. Too over priced and certainly not good value for money. Pleasantness of staff is a minimum to be expected in the hospitality industry and the main reason we keep coming is the rare few experienced staff we are used to and convent location near home. We didn't enjoy the stay as we were hoping and unlikely to come again and no one able to sit down to talk to to resolve issues when we were here. It should not be onus for guests to ask for certain things which should be standard I e. Non slip bath mat, a member of staff should actively be asking all guests how the stay is and making immediate changes. The hotel were made aware of our needs and requirements before arriving but in many aspects hotel fell short. I have read other guest reviews and the low reviews are justified - it's unacceptable for the hotel to just repeatedly say thanks for your feedback and changes will be made but over the years the reality is nothing has been done about the issues. We are experienced to make accurate reviews because we have been coming to the hotel for many years, seeing numerous staff and management come and go but we all feel the trips are becoming more and more disappointing as nothing to offer in reality. Golf flags disappeared, tennis removed, windows hardly open in sweltering small non air conditioned rooms - this is a serious health and safety issue, no security at the hotel - guests have previously written reviews about serious safety breaches, this doesn't leave me feeling safe or. Confident Management can learn a lot and improve a lot by putting into action what guests have been saying for years, especially us, time for empty promises to stop and some real changes made. Guests are not respected.
