Excellent Food Excellent food
Booked by phone, friendly booking and good value as included breakfast.
Bought two small dogs which wasn’t a problem and made to feel welcome.
Good choice of evening meal, very nice and even stretched to pudding!
Nice evening spent between the beer garden and restaurant. Again friendly service. _

Pettifers is getting there! We have been going to this hotel for over 24 years, we have experienced it's up and downs (previously known as the Mayfield ) , yes it might not be a 3* Boutique hotel but who cares for what we paid, a lovely room, excellent breakfast and lots of empathy from all the staff we met including the owners.

Poor. Grubby en suite, poor bed. Left my pocket knife in my room when I left and it had mysteriously disappeared when I called in the next day to claim it. When Iasked to have the room checked for my property, I was told that a member of staff was asleep in there (15:00) and it wasn't possible to check. Avoid if possible.

Let us down badly Unfortunately we seemed to be victim to what seems to be an ongoing trend here. I phoned before booking as my husband is disabled and we needed a ground floor room with a walk in shower. I spoke to a gentleman who was very pleasant on the phone and he said we could have " a very nice large double which has a lovely cotswold stone wetroom". My husbands birthday came around and we set off looking forward to our 2 night break. For me this always involves alot of pre planning but I was confident the room was going to meet our needs and requests. Imagine our surprise when the receptionist gave us the keys and said "just go through that door and up the stairs"!!!!! When I told her of my conversation she said she knew exactly which room he was referring to but he had not put the request on the booking and that room was occupied.
We had no alternative but to leave. Thank you to them for ruining our break, adding to our stress and making us feel discriminated against. Watch out if you are making a special request for a room as I have seen 2 previous reviews where it happened to them also. We took our money which we'd have spent on room, meal, drinks etc to spend at somewhere who cared.

Very limited menu. Disappointing food. As we were staying (my mother, wife and I) in one of the self catering cottages linked to the hotel, we booked an evening meal on the first night in the hotel.
It was very quiet, with only a few other diners. We ordered a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet, but were told that there was only 1 bottle, which had already been opened, and 1 glass sold. So we asked for a bottle of the NZ sauvignon blanc, which was also out of stock.Eventually, the waitress brought a bottle of French sauvignon blanc which was not on the wine list, but was quite nice but expensive at £33.
Two of us wanted the sea bass as our main course, but were told that there was none, leaving only meat dishes. 2 of us decided on the meatballs with spaghetti, but my wife didn’t fancy any of the other meat dishes, so she asked if there were any vegetarian options. She was told that she could have spaghetti with a tomato sauce, or a selection of roasted veg. She decided on the prawn cocktail starter as a main course, which was just shrimps in thousand island dressing. The meatballs were no better than what I could have made at home.
We felt sorry for the waitresses .
