Worst Hotel experience from a known brand The front desk was tended ( kind of, many times no one at the front desk)by young women who clearly did not want to be there. Some poor customer care checking in as out. Upon checking out we were locked out of the room due to that there were no luggage carts to be seen or had. This was 1pm in the afternoon. The least busy time to check in or out. The 3rd time walking down to get the key card to work the maneger was there and he walked us up to make sure it worked. As we had lots of bags it took 4 trips to get them all down because of no carts. Looks like they tried to update it, but superficially so. Not what I expected from this brand at all.

Very loud, housekeeping not great, comfy bed This doesn't happen often, but we requested a different room immediately. The suites have two a/c units and both were old and insanely loud. There's no way we could have slept with the rattling they made. We saw that another family member had newer and quieter units, so I guess they are in the process of replacing them. We were able to get a different room with quieter a/c. I have video of the loud a/c, but couldn't upload it. Pros - * The room was clean and comfortable, bed and pillows were very comfortable. Seriously. Whenever my husband talk about the cons, we go back and say "but the bed was really comfortable..." * Decent storage options. * Good location for what we needed. * Large common public area, although more comfortable seating would have been nice. There's a couch in the lobby, a couple of fireplace chairs, and everything else is for dining or working. * Ample parking. * Nice staff in lobby with good customer service. Cons - * So loud. Not just the a/c. We could hear the hallway, the room next door, and everything above us. From 6pm to 10pm the family above us sounded like a herd of stampeding elephants. My morning started at 6am with the constant scraping of dining chairs on the hard floor, until 8am. * Lazy housekeeping. Sorry, but there's no better way to put it. The biggest issue was that there were nasty dirty dishes in the dishwasher from the previous guest. There wasn't anything for running the dishwasher, nor papertowels, nor trashbags - all basic items which are usually supplied in these residence style hotel rooms. The water reservoir in the coffee maker was gross and unusable. The handle on the fridge was broken off. The bed had a duvet comforter and a duvet cover placed over the comforter like a bedspread. This defeats the purpose of a duvet cover, as comforters are rarely laundered. In the first room we were in (with the loud a/c) there was trash - old popcorn, candy, and a broken screw/pin (from the sofa bed?) - under the sofa and easily visible from across the room. * Weak shower. Probably the weakest shower I've ever experienced, and the water didn't get very hot. I did experiment with the shower head settings, to no avail. Also, no shower gel in the shower. There was shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. The body lotion was in addition to the bottle of lotion at the sink. Why do I need two bottles of lotion, and why one in the shower instead of gel? * Not enough towels: two bath towels, two hand towels. Yes, I could ask for more. But hotels should allow for more than 1 full size bath towel per guest. Most women use 2 towels when they shower. * Suspicious about breakfast. We had breakfast on the first morning. Not much offered, no fresh fruit, but some basics, including scrambled eggs and oatmeal. My husband said the eggs tasted weird. We had an upset stomach for the next two days - common for him, but not me. * Hot water in lobby not replenished. Water was tepid by 5-6pm, and once it was gone, that was it. Management did try to make amends quickly on a few of these. We travel to Memphis a few times a year. We will still consider staying here again, but with some caveats. It would have to be a room on the top floor, with newer a/c.

Total Nightmare - Violation of Guests Privacy and Room, Lack of Accountability by Hotel Management If you are in search of a good hotel experience, I would not recommend staying at the Hampton Inn on Shady Grove in Memphis. I am currently working with the hotel's management team to resolve a serious incident that has invaded my privacy and security. I hope that a feasible solution will be reached, and my opinion of the hotel will change. Although I'm a Hilton Honors member and have had wonderful experiences with the Hilton brand, my stay at this particular hotel was a complete nightmare. Without my permission, several staff members and supervisors entered my hotel room and took valuables and items, which were verified and documented by the hotel and their insurance company. When I raised the issue with the hotel, I was told that it's their policy to enter guest rooms without their consent, which is unacceptable. During check-in, I was informed that any access to my room would require my prior permission. That is why I felt safe in bringing some valuable items to the hotel room. As a senior citizen and a 30-year plus veteran school teacher and administrator, I was shocked and appalled by the hotel management team and supervisors' conduct and their rules for violating the privacy of the hotel guests. Although the general manager of the hotel was cooperative and understanding, she was evasive when it came to addressing her staff's behavior and treatment of the guests. The hotel offered me a $50 gift card for the inconvenience, but it hardly compensated for the trouble, pain, and suffering I had to endure from the taunting of the hotel employees and violating my privacy and space while I was a guest at the hotel. It is a nightmare to be targeted and violated by hotel employees (supervisors). And yes, the proper authorities were called to include the local police department. It's disturbing that all of this appalling conduct and action came from the upper management of the hotel. Not only did hotel staff members sleep on the job behind a pulled curtain in the makeshift check-in area during the renovation of the hotel process, but profanity could also be heard downstairs of the hotel by staff members in the back corners of the hotel, especially in the washer/dryer area. Staff members also frequent the parking lot, loudly cussing while chatting with friends or family members on FaceTime. When staff members come into your room without your permission and take items without your knowledge, it takes matters too far. To add insult to injury, as of date, this Hampton Inn location has not taken accountability for its employees' actions. Since there were 4 supervisors involved, they think they are about the law and can do whatever the heck they want to do even if it means violating the privacy of a woman and a hotel guest. For a greater insult to injury, the hotel employees then thrived on taunting the guests for complaining and being concerned for their safety. Whatever happened to common courtesy and hotel hospitality? I experienced a nightmare at this hotel. Little to no lack of accountability for hotel employees' crude actions toward guests. If you're planning to book a stay at the Hampton Inn, I would suggest considering spending a bit more staying at the Embassy Suites. The Embassy Suites is a sister hotel of Hampton Inn and part of the Hilton franchise. It is located right next door to the Hampton Inn and shares the same parking lot. Peace of mind and security are priceless, and the extra dollars you spend will be worth it. While the Hampton Inn is undergoing renovations, looks can be deceiving. So, potential guests, beware! I'm only sharing my experience so that other potential guests can be informed and avoid the risks of staying at this location. A hotel that refuses to take accountability for its actions and makes you feel uncomfortable is not worth the stay. Remember, peace of mind and safety are everything. Beware and best wishes.

Poor Service Let me start off by saying the hotel and rooms were recently renovated and were nice. The service is another story. We were checked in by a very nice man who was in the middle of checking in a huge group of meeting goers, and was very patient when I finally got up to the desk, and upgraded us. We were not part of the group. After that, all front desk personnel had an attitude and couldn't be bothered, except for a woman named Kay. We were there 3 nights, and room was never cleaned, towels refreshed or trash taken out, even upon request. When asked front desk person for more towels, we were told each of us could only have 1 towel when asked for more. I called the manager after our checkout as she was not available at the time, and shared our experience. She kindly offered us Hilton Honors points which have not been received a week later. Also, my phone calls to her have not been returned.
