Great experience The receptionist Makala was super helpful and a joy to interact with, the room was great, big shower and very quiet despite being under construction. It’s my top choice when I come to modesto with the price and everything around it. This is always a top choice for me when considering getting a hotel room here in modesto.

Experience The hotel was very clean and upon checking out Mikala at the front desk was so friendly. I appreciate all her effort into making sure our stay was comfortable. It was a little noisy, however the comfortable bed and blackout curtains allow me to fall asleep quickly

Nightmare stay The evening receptionist was arguing with 2 separate people booking in, telling them they had no room as we arrived. He told them that despite paying it wasn't on his system. The hotel had clearly overbooked. Then we get the same story despite paying a week earlier from our bank. We finally get a poor room after 22 hours of travel in which the plug was missing from the bath and they had no spares, to the hair dryer not working, to the outside security door being broken so scores of outsiders were free to roam the hotel. We gave up, along with 4 other people and slept in the car in a safe lay by 12 miles away. $140 for nothing, although he NIGHT LADY was great. She was honest and said many people had left that night and that she got MANY complaints every single night and was looking to leave the job soon. ALL THIS IS TRUE ON THE BIBLE YET WE DIDN'T GET A SINGLE PENNY BACK. THE HOTEL WON'T EVEN REPLY. ABSOLUTE SLUM. WE WANT OUR MONEY BACK.

Dreadful Run down. Reception staff constantly telling people they have no room despite ore paying. Noise all night. Broken bath. Broken hairdryer. Arrogant staff member really unhelpful. Cost a fortune for a 2 star place falling down. Terrible value. We checked out at 2am as did 5 others. Lovely night staff lady apologised many times. Said she gets complaints constantly. 0 out of 10.

The personal security situation is DIRE. “Oh, an Ascend Hotel. That’s the nice historic brand from Choice. Cool. It’ll be fine.” But it was not fine. My first clue should have been when “La Casa Modesto” didn’t come up with many results and nothing here on TA. Turns out it’s just a rebrand of the Modesto Hotel. The room itself was perfectly adequate. Really big room, in fact, and a large bathroom. Seemed clean enough. But outside one of the side doors was a woman dressed for business (I’m not exaggerating). There were men sitting in cars in the parking lot. You have to ring a bell to be let in to the lobby, and the receptionist has to literally walk over to see you before letting you in. They sell multiple types of prophylactics (Trojan brand, even) at the front desk. And there was a man shouting aggressively into his cell phone on speaker right outside our room. We bailed. We bailed FAST. I am a large and imposing man who has stayed in a lot of gritty places, and I did not feel safe there. When we left, one of the men in the cars came over to see what we were trying to score. We ended up at a Best Western in Manteca which, while not exactly a marquee name, was the Ritz compared to this place. “Drive,” said my partner as we left. “I’ll put the address in but let’s get out of here.” Do not stay here. Ascend collection, my hind foot.
