Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa If you’re planning a trip to Monterey then stay at the Plaza; get an ocean or harbour view room and watch the sea otters relaxing in the kelp just below your balcony, The staff couldn’t be more helpful and the food in the restaurant is fantastic - all the more because you’re dining outside over the ocean.

10/10 Would Recommend The team here goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome, and the hotel itself is nothing short of spectacular. Monica took exceptional care of us throughout our entire stay—she truly made us feel at home. The location is perfect, just steps from the Monterey Bay Aquarium and within easy walking distance of the best shops, restaurants, and coastal activities. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

A great stay, great service and the best management! It was a pleasure to stay at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa as we came to the end of our west coast USA road trip. We stayed for 3 nights in one of the ‘Harbour King Balcony’ rooms - which EXCEEDED our expectations in both the size, view and value for money. It was relaxing to spend the mornings and evenings watching the sea otters directly within meters of the hotel. Hotel had a ‘grand’ atmosphere as you entered, the roaring fire and evening entertainment in the lobby was a bonus, and with the restaurant and views it was hardly needed to leave the hotel (of course we did to enjoy the Monterey sights - a whale watching tour was a particular highlight). Without diverting too far away from the review of the hotel itself I must make a big shout out to the Managing Director Mr Chris Sommers and his team including Hilary and Matthew. We ran into trouble with our hire car which was recovered due to a breakdown - the short story was that Chris noticed us in a frustrated state outside the lobby and asked if he could help since we were getting no where with the hire car company.… a couple hours later his team had been in touch to the company and resolved the breakdown and had our car back the next day, even driving us to collect the car from the shop. We stayed at many 4 / 5 star hotels and I never had such personal attention and support from the hotel management with a problem outside of the hotels remit. It really was highly appreciated and de-stressed the rest of our stay and assured us we would be in safe hands if we ever needed anything. THANKS for saving our holiday! Would for sure come back again. P.S - Great coffee machine and most importantly for us Brits there was a great kettle to make tea ! … something missing in many hotels we stayed at.

True Hospitality in Monterey I have to say from the moment we stepped foot in Monterey, the Plaza Hotel made our stay absolutely VIP. I had arranged for pickup from the hotel from the complimentary shuttle. Armani was our guy and was so welcoming and had a great attitude. We got to the hotel and the lobby was beautiful (even better in the evenings with excellent live music and vibes). Everything was clean, concierge was attentive, the housekeeping was excellent. Everyone especially Armani embodied the value of hospitality. This is one of the best hotels we have stayed at and I have to say that the other family that stayed at another popular hotel was quite jealous we were here. The location is excellent and there's nothing more calming than hearing the crash of waves outside your window as you go to sleep. We didn't even dine at Schooners as there was a long wait our last night but we will be sure to make a trip the next time!

“Elegant Hotel with Ocean Views" This elegant historic hotel offers charm and a fantastic oceanfront location. Our sea view room was spacious and classically decorated. Watching the sea otters float in the kelp just outside was a real treat. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary bottle of Californian Pinot Noir — a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture that made our stay feel even more special. The room was equipped with a Nespresso machine, which we really appreciated — it was hands down the best in-room coffee we had during our entire trip. Matthew at the front desk was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. We had dinner at Schooners. While the food was fine, the service unfortunately did not meet the same standard — our main course arrived without cutlery, the fries came too early with the appetizer, and my sole was a bit overcooked, possibly from sitting under the heat lamp. Also, we received the bill but nothing to sign with. One area that could use an update is the bathroom — the shower curtain felt quite outdated and didn’t match the otherwise elegant feel of the hotel. Despite this, the hotel left a positive impression and remains a lovely place to stay in Monterey.
