Welcoming and chic hotel Chateau de Montreuil is one of those hotels that you like to keep to yourself. Old school french chateau, 50min easy drive off the Eurotunnel, 5min walk away from town centre, quiet with a top class restaurant.
Attentive but not in your face service, this is a hidden gem.
The rooms are homely with everything you need. Ours even had a dressing room, walk shower room and oak panelled walls.
Gets busy for lunch and dinner, but generally very peaceful. A perfect base for exploring the town and surrounding countryside.

En route stop Having had a late departure from Folkestone at 17,25, I needed a night stop before continuing my drive to SW France. Montreuil was a 50 minute from Calais.
Room 4 was average, with a good size bathroom. I slept well after a tasty supper in the bistro, a powerful shower woke me, and after a satisfactory breakfast, which included a tasty cheese omelette (served baveuse), I continued my road trip.

Homely luxury We have just spent two nights at this homely and luxurious hotel. Hospitable and welcoming, it was a delight to come in from the biting wind and rain. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom, if a little old fashioned was lovely and well fitted out. The staff were so helpful and could not do enough for us. Montreuil is a delightful village and we walked into the town square for some supper. Can highly recommend.

Wonderful birthday meal Just had a truly wonderful birthday meal for my 93 year old mother at the Chateau. We had visited before and the food had always been top class. But the efforts to which they went to look after us and make us comfortable were what made this particular visit worth the day trip from Kent. Thank you so much!

Okay, but has the sad feeling of a once excellent hotel about to close for a few months Maybe it was out of season, and everything was adequate, but you expect a little sprinkle of stardust at a Relais & Chateau establishment.
We didn’t get it, it all felt a little tired (apart from the dining room).
Maybe simply explained by the fact that the establishment is about to close for 4 months whilst it changes ownership.
The previous proprietor of 40 years has sold it on.
It will loose its Relais & Chateau relationship as well as its ‘gastronomic’ restaurant status for a while...if ever it is to regain them.
This is simply to alert potential clients of this state of flux over the coming months.
That said the new proprietors maybe planning changes, but best to check carefully first.
