First rate people and experience Jontae at Mark Twain to the rescue!
Originally had a reservation at another hotel but when I arrived in town and attempted to check in, I was told they had overbooked and could not honor the reservation. There was some sort of softball tournament in town so any moderately priced hotel was booked solid and since I was staying for a full week, I just could not afford $150 (or more) per night.
Mark Twain appeared to have availability online but wanted to talk to a human just to be sure. When I called, I was lucky enough to get Jontae on the phone and he truly was a lifesaver for me. They had an available room for the full 7 nights and the price ended up being less for the full stay than I would have paid at the original hotel.
Self-serve hot coffee and tea available in the lobby 24-7 and free bottled water behind the check in desk - just ask. Sadly, due to Covid, the restaurant (Two25) is closed, so there is no hot breakfast as of this writing (June 9, 2021) but they have come up with a pretty good alternative. Fill out a card with what cold options you would like for the duration of your stay and every morning as you go down to get your coffee or tea, ask the front desk clerk for you "grab and go" bag! Nothing fancy, but certainly enough to hold you over until you can get a hot meal at lunchtime.
Plenty of free parking and very easy access to I-74. If your room is on the front side of the building you will hear traffic noise but you can just set the A/C unit fan to low (instead of auto) and that is sufficient to drown out most of the noise.
Room has microwave, one-shot coffee maker (not compatible with K-cups, it uses its own unique pod), a mini refrigerator, and an air conditioning unit that works beautifully - loved that I could make it super cold! Bed is super comfy, the linens smell fresh and clean, towels are full size and fluffy, and they have Bath & Body Works trial size products (shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion) in the bathroom. Plenty of room in the wardrobe and two oversized drawers to hold all your clothes and there are hooks by the door for any jackets or bags. The workspace / corner desk is the perfect set up. I was able to use it as my dinner table and office because there is plenty of space.
Final thought: Jontae plays the BEST music in the evenings and he was always waiting with a smile and a cold water bottle after a long day at the hospital...he truly helped make what was a very stressful time bearable and I am so grateful.

Charming Yet Deceiving I chose this hotel based on the theme of Mark Twain, and the fact that it appeared to be rated well. There was no one at the desk when I walked in so I had to actually call the front desk as I’m standing there at the front desk (per the sign at the desk). The downstairs is very nice; library, wooden ceiling aesthetic. Check in was easy after that. The shock came after I got to my room. The carpet looked like someone had bleach on the bottom of their shoes and walked around. The bathroom appeared to be clean, but there were hairs on the sink and shower tiles and the toilet was filthy. There was a used towel hung on the door hook. The nightstand had some sort of substance stuck to the surface, with hair stuck in it. The bed had dark particles and hair on it. The lock chain was broken. I would never recommend this hotel, nor will I ever stay here again.

Personal I’m a little late giving this review. It’s been a busy year. My grandson was born February 10, 2020. He was immediately transferred to a hospital in Peoria. We knew we were going to be there for some time. We stayed at The Mark Twain hotel for 5 weeks. The staff was amazing! Every day they asked how we were doing and wanting to help in any way. Every staff member was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable with a microwave and fridge. The restaurant on the grounds has amazing food! Highly recommend this hotel and restaurant! Thank you to everyone we came in contact with during our stay!!

Peoria visit to see a concert Walking through the lobby / library has the charm and presence of a time long past. Very cozy. Our room was very clean and updated. Excellent and friendly staff. Breakfast isn't served off of counter top shelf, it's served by chefs and you eñjoy in a very nice restaurant that co occupies the first floor. Will be back.
