Rancho Viejo This place is an Oasis on a waterway (resaca) which is a former tributary of the Rio Grande River. The golf courses are challenging and well maintained. The club restaurant is excellent and reasonable considering the quality and the atmosphere. The people are friendly and helpful. The tennis courts are new and well lit. But the best part of it is how peaceful it is.

Nice Family Resort Our three grandkids joined us in a two bedroom king suite. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are convenient to the restaurant and golf course. The resort pool was 5 minutes away. The staff of the resort are wonderful. We prefer the resort's diner for breakfast over the included minimal buffet. Also the resort needs a fresh coat of paint and a business center. Stay at Ranch Viejo Resort when in Brownsville, you won't be disappointed.

Rude Pro Shop! The white old guy (Golf Pro) was condescending and downright rude. The rest of the staff seemed nice enough. Course was in crummy shape. But it's southern Texas and very dry and hot. There are much better options in the valley. Stay away from Rancho Viejo unless you like paying too much and being treated like a 2nd class citizen.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, NEVER AGAIN. The nice staff cannot makeup for the fact that this place is CRAP. We checked in, immediately asked for extra comforters for my babies, was informed they had NONE. Instead, they gave me more bed sheets. The restroom was FALLING APART. The shower was dirty and full of RUSTY SCUM AND PUBIC HAIR. The toilet paper holder was FALLING OFF THE WALL. The walls were ridiculously DIRTY. It really felt like I had walked in a toddlers playing area-with writings and smudges on the walls. All the Sheetrock is patched up. The door that exits to the lake HAD WATER DAMAGE AND WAS LITERALLY FALLING IN PIECES-it could very easily be kicked in. Lastly, there were broken bottles immediately outside this door. GLASS THAT MY 2 year old daughter was playing in until I realized that there was a BROKEN GLASS BOTTLE. This is my second time here and it was the same experience all over again!! I gave them a second chance but OH MY GOD!!! PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE MAJESTIC PICTURES!!!!

Food.. outstanding! Service .. excellent! Everyone on staff was genuinely friendly and helpful; they could not have been nicer. The included breakfast buffet was very good, the lunch buffet was really good, but ... the real kudos go to the dinner menu! Do NOT leave without trying their Steak Tampiqueña - yum!! If you're going for golf, which we did, be warned that the short 9-hole course - El Angél - is in the process of being closed down. We played it, and it was fun, but the greens are not being maintained and are rough. The 18-hole El Diablo is a very good course, in very good condition and very playable. The golf practice range is grass and has lots of targets. There is a large, very countoured putting green just behind. They also just opened a high-tech Top Tracer range adjacent to the "regular" range. I didn't try it, but you can look it up and see the different practices and games you can play on it. Only other negative is the pool was closed for maintenance and cleaning while we were there (was not aware where we booked) but otoh the fitness center is really well-equipped and kept very clean.
