Older Hotel with "Character" I stayed at this property twice in the last month driving across country and back. Both times, the desk clerks, both at check-in and checkout were welcoming and knowledgeable. The property appears to be an older property, it has been well-maintained over the years, but think of a moderate hotel from the 70's. Of note, although I didn't get one of such rooms, some of the rooms overlook an indoor "courtyard" so if you get one of those rooms, you won't have a window to the outside. When I was there, the courtyard appeared to be wasted space, but I can see how it would be an attraction for an event (such as a wedding or small trade conference). The property is located off to itself, there is a restaurant on site, but within Salina there are several restaurant options. The mattress in both rooms sat on a metal box. They have a well-stocked continental breakfast, which includes waffles and precooked eggs.

No elevator. No ice. This hotel is being updated and really needs a lot of work. The staff were very nice though. The room smelled a bit musty. The ice machine doesn't work and there is no elevator. The open concept common area is definitely a liminal space experience for those who are into that kind of thing.

Back in the day Pulling up it looked really old. Going inside it looked old. Checked in and was pleasantly surprised. Yes the hallway and room both looked old but it was a nice place. I'm sure back in the day it was the place to go to. It's 2 floors and has no elevator.

Comfortable, clean, inexpensive, but a bad customer experience I was driving back to Massachusetts from Colorado and booked this hotel for the night for the very fair and inexpensive price that they offered at choicehotels.com that night. The location off the highway was convenient, too. There are lots of conveniences for travelers near this hotel. The proprietor or the employee working that evening seemed very concerned about party people staying at the hotel that night, even though it was a Wednesday night in May. There was no need to worry about me, though. I just wanted a comfortable bed! and the bed was very comfortable, and had all the comfy pillows that the hotel chain usually has on the bed, too. The hotel is in need of renovation for its decor, but everything including my room was impeccably clean and comfortable so I had no complaints. I had booked a room with a balcony, but when I got into my room, it was a handicapped-accessible room, not a room with a balcony. I laughed it off because I was tired and I was pretty sure that the website just wasn't coded correctly, and just went along with it rather than spending the time to complain and change rooms. The other guests were actual party people and were loud for a while, but they settled down before quiet hours, and all was good and comfortable and quiet. In the morning, I overslept. I'd driven solo for 10 hours before I checked in late, and I was called five minutes after check-out time by the front desk to ask when I would leave. That's fine, but in the same sentence, I was threatened with a late charge from whomever called my room, as if I were one of the party people from the night before, or trying to steal time, and that made me angry. I'm a Platinum member at Choice Hotels, and I wasn't offered points or amenities when I checked in, which I didn't call out at the time. I was told "No parties, no pets" which I wasn't going to have either. After the call about the check-out time, I got out of there within 20 minutes, as politely as I could. I left the room as neat and clean as possible, and I didn't even mess up the bathroom or towels with a shower. I left a nice tip for the housekeeping staff, too. I did mention to the front desk employee when I checked out that hotel managers should not treat customers that way. The employee was apologetic. It wasn't her fault but I felt I needed to say something. Anyway - the hotel is outdated, but comfortable and affordable. I'd stay again, but I had an unpleasant encounter and felt the need to tell my experience.

Bed Bugs Bed Bugs! Checked in at 5:00 on the 30th and room seemed clean: lots of Fabuloso smell. Went to sleep and woke up to use the restroom. Saw a bug walking on the bed and caught it in one of their clear water cups. Took it to the front desk and asked for a refund. Desk clerk called manager who said I wouldn't receive a refund until she investigates. *Update, The manager had a state health inspector come in and they reported no signs of bugs? This could only mean 1 of two things could have happened. 1) I a Choice Privileges member for 9+ years, most of them at the diamond level and having enough points to get the room free. Who's hotels are paid for by his employer. Decided to pull a fast one, and bring his own bed bug in so he could get 7 hrs of hotel time free. Or 2) between 11:40 on the 30 (when I left) and 1:50 on the 31st (when the health inspector arrived) the room was cleaned up. You can decide which is more plausible. I guess I'm out the $88.36, but they're will be more reports I'm sure.
