Renovations are nice, but many expected amenities are now gone. I’ve stayed here for once a year for 15+ years for an annual convention. I’m glad it has been renovated - the new decor is lovely, the bathrooms are nicer, and they finally have refrigerators in every room. (They used to have a limited supply, and it was first-come first-served.) And the new elevator system is 100% better, particularly during busy times. But it is noticeable what is now missing. No more room service. Fewer suites. The concierge lounge is completely gone. The hotel used to have 2 restaurants, bar, coffee shop and a very nice gift shop. Now there’s only a combo bar/restaurant with limited seating, and a small grab-and-go cafe. These aren’t covid-related limitations —- it was an intentional part of the renovation. My stay was just fine (I’m grateful I didn’t have the a/c issues others have reported), and I’ll keep staying at this hotel as long as our annual convention keeps booking here. But if you have a choice, there are other similar-priced hotels with vastly better amenities, and this hotel should be priced less considering the amenities that have been removed.

Awful Pillows I've been traveling to San Antonio multiple times a year since 2004. I've stayed in this hotel many times over the years and it has generally been one of my favorites. This past week, I stayed 3 nights and have changed my mind. Cons: The parking garage is underground. If you have a large vehicle, you will have a very difficult time leaving without scraping the wall. I barely did it. The wifi is not free which I feel in the year 2021 is a must have for a hotel. The hotel store which sells snacks and stuff offers breakfast. Their menu advertised bacon egg and cheese muffins. But when ordering they were only offering egg white sandwiches that day. By not changing their posted menu, I waited in line and wasted time. The worst offense of all were the pillows. I didn't get any sleep whatsoever the entire trip. Neither did my girlfriend. The pillows pancake immediately after resting your head on them. There is no support whatsoever. I asked some friends staying at the same hotel and they said the same thing. Somehow, one of the nicer hotels in the middle of San Antonio failed on the most basic thing a hotel is supposed to provide. I've never used a pillow that bad in my entire life. Even when I've been forced to stay in cheap motels. It wasn't just the one pillow either. There were four in the room and all were equally awful. It's just how they are made. Pros: The restaurant is amazing. Our server was incredible. The bar is nice. The room is decent although I've had better for cheaper. The location is amazing due to it being connected to the Rivercenter Mall and within walking distance to everything in Downtown San Antonio including the convention center. The new elevator system is excellent and saves a lot of wait time. Summary: I have really enjoyed this hotel in the past but the total failure in pillows ruined my experience as well as my opinion of this being a quality hotel. TL;DR The pillows are awful and pancake immediately upon resting your head on them. The restaurant is nice and the location is within walking distance of everything in Downtown San Antonio. If you have a large vehicle, don't use the hotel parking garage. Seriously, the pillows are awful. Didn't get any sleep for 3 days. If staying here, bring your own pillow.

Best Front Desk Host Valerie went out of her way to help a first-time visitor from Massachusetts. She asked her manager when unsure, promised to follow up with me and she did so. Even though she had a line waiting, she never hurried me.

Phenomenal people!! We loved our stay at the Marriott! It's a beautiful facility and the staff is exceedingly friendly. Every single employee that we encountered greeted us and were happy and pleasant. Patrick at the front desk was exceptional, as was London in the restaurant. We ate dinner at the hotel on our last night and regretted that that was the only meal we had there. Each member of our party raved about their meal; all agreed that the steak, which we could cut with a butter knife, was the best ever had. Thank you, Marriott, for working hard to exceed in experience and customer service.
