The reviews are justified, this hotel exceeds all expectations of a Courtyard This hotel is in an old bank and the lobby is beautiful. It feels grand and could easily be a higher branded hotel. The only negative is the location is just north of the gaslamp district, which starts to feel a little bit rough around the edges. Location: The location is good and walkable to gaslamp, but you are on the rough side of it. At night, it doesn't feel great walking around outside of the hotel. Cleanliness: Perfect Service: The staff was great and extremely friendly. Valet was quick and easy with a great text function that was very responsive. Rooms: They were a little run down, but very nice in general and met all expectations. Final Notes: If you want a nice budget hotel, this is a perfect place. It's right next to the US Grant which charges twice as much for a very similar experience. I'd highly recommend this to someone looking to enjoy gaslamp, but save a few dollars without giving up quality of the hotel.

Bad Experience I'm giving it two stars, but it is closer to 1.5. I am a long-time Marriott rewards member and have stayed at Marriott all over the United States (and some abroad). This place is definitely in the bottom rung of Marriotts. First, the few good things, the lobby is pretty, and the bartender gave me a very generous pour of white wine. Now the bad. The room was not as clean as most people would expect. My bf found something gross, but he still won't tell me what it was. They were very stingy with the towels. I will not go into much detail, but I will say I had a bad experience with one of the housekeeping staff (the first time in my life that has ever happened). She was insulting; I mentioned it to the lobby staff, they said sorry, and they would speak to her. Right after I spoke the front desk staff I was in the elevator going back to my room, and the same housekeeper was in the elevator; she proceeded to call me out in front of 4 other people in the elevator, mentioned my room number, and told me I was in the restroom too long. I was not pleased. Who does that? I was shocked that she would mention my room number and told me I was taking too long in the restroom. I told her she was extremely rude, she smiled. Regarding the location, it is in a rough area. We walked to the Gas Lamp district, but I wouldn't do it again, it is not a far walk, but it did not feel safe.

Facilities nice, service not impressive at all None of the items below taken individually, would be a deal breaker. But collectively, they convinced us not to choose this Marriott again. There are other SD Marriotts in the area we will use in the future!. In addition to the item detailed below were the following: 1) When we checked in, we found leftover food from the previous guest in the refrigerator. 2) Returning to our room, from a day our, we noticed that the sheets were changed but no new towels! Had to call front desk to get some sent up (Email sent to Bess Miller, Mgr at hotel) Had a follow up conversation that accomplished nothing, except apologies for lack of knowledge Good Evening, I have been a part of Marriotts “Honored Guest (Bonvoy)” program for 30+ years. I never once had a reason to be dissatisfied with the service I received from my stays at Marriott hotels until today. I went to use the elliptical in the fitness room around 6:00. . I became frustrated because the system screens kept pausing and resetting and I also could not adjust the fields to show the correct data I called the front desk and a young lady said someone would be down. After several minutes I called and a different young lady picked up and I repeated my original request. She said she hadn’t heard about it and said someone was coming. Several minutes a later man (I was given the name Max) who I thought was a technician came in. He turned on the TV (which worked fine) but that was it. When he started to leave I asked if he was the person who was supposed to help me. He said he was an engineer but didn’t know how the ellipticals work. I was at my BS tolerance level and called the front desk again to ask what was going on (6:30 now) This time a front desk employee in a suit (Robert?) came down. When I explained the situation, he simply said he didn’t know anything about how the machines work. My He smiled and said he was sorry (I doubt it) and left. At this point I went upstairs and let Robert know about my dissatisfaction. He kept apologizing for not doing anything but then passed the buck to you which is why you’re reading this. He said I could speak to you later this evening (10:30) but I will wait to hear back from you. All I was asking for someone to explain to me how a piece of your equipment works. I got slow response, no answers, and insincere apologies. That is not the standard I have enjoyed from Marriott. Everything else about Courtyard is fine but I am very disappointed on this point. I am not asking for any compensation or anything like that but I think a simple answer to my question and certain performances need to be addressed. I don’t think my expectations are unreasonable. Very disappointed Decided to stay here due to the convenient location and great reviews. I just checked in to nice staff, but the room is terrible. I’m in a 1 bedroom king suite on the 8th floor and so many things are off that I had to write a review. Here’s what’s wrong with the room so far: - stepped into a room that smelled of strong BO. Called to try and change rooms, but they only had three other similar rooms. Problem was my son was a little scared of the other rooms as the hallways are a bit dark so we decided to stay put. - phone wasn’t connected so we had to get behind the table to get the cord to plug in phone - TV wasn’t plugged in so had to get behind the dresser to plug - once we plugged the tv in, it was just static so had to call maintenance - shower drains are clogged so our showers were like a foot bath. - opened up fold out sofa bed and the sheets from a prior occupant was still there...... I just took them off and placed it outside the room. I’m stunned that so many items fell through the cracks. Hopefully this is an isolated incident.....

A little dark Covid tip: If you want to work out, make sure you schedule your time AS SOON AS YOU ARRIVE. Only 1 person can use the fitness center at a time and you can only book 1 day in advance. The view sadly was not great. Staff friendly and helpful. You're right next to a 7 Eleven and the Gaslamp district which is great!
