Great experience in the center of Sofia As an IHG member I was given a warm welcome and a late checkout. Our room was very large, stocked with all items, water in glass bottles, coffee and tea, robes and slippers, etc, and a full mini bar which we didn't use. The refrigerator was not cold but since we didn't use anything this was fine. Beds were comfy and clean, and it was silent and dark for sleeping. Of special mention is the breakfast, where we not only had typical buffet fare, but prosecco was available to create delicious morning mimosas and an area was dedicated to bulgarian specialties that included a honeycomb. The coffee was excellent too. It took us a 15 min walk to see 3 notable churches and multiple notable sites. The metro entrance is basically out the door. So convenient.

SHOCKINGLY BAD EXPERIENCE We are a couple traveling through Europe and checked in at the unimpressive hotel reception (17TH JUNE 2024) and made our way to the room. The smell from the carpeted corridor was OVERWHELMING and was worse in the room. Unfortunately the room had 2 single beds and immediately I told the bell boy who brought our luggage to please ask the reception if there has been a mistake and we could change the room. We get a call from the reception asking us as to why we were unhappy with the room and she was pretty rude. My wife told her that it’s not that we are unhappy it’s a room with 2 single beds and requested if our room could be changed. We were told the hotel was fully booked and it was impossible to change the room. In the meanwhile I checked the booking which was done by my travel agent and it was actually his mistake. So I called him and he immediately booked another room in the SAME HOTEL and sent me the voucher. So we went down to the reception and told them so. But all the three women there got so ANGRY with us WHY DID YOU CALL YOUR AGENT when we clearly told you that there is PHYSICALLY no room available in the hotel. This was in spite of telling them that the fault was with our agent and not the hotel! The 3 women were EXTREMELY RUDE and AGGRESSIVE in their behavior. I showed them the voucher that the room is already booked. That’s when they just kept quiet, no smiles no apologies for their behavior. In fact one of them asked sarcastically if our agent will pay for 2 rooms, I said that is not my problem or yours and she goes on to say IF WE DON’T GET PAID then it’s our problem. I said you have ALREADY BEEN PAID as the booking has shown up in your system. It was a shocking experience as I have not seen anything like this after traveling to over 50 countries in my lifetime. Did not expect this from THE INTERCONTINENTAL group.. Only the bell boys and the concierge were polite and respectful. The hotel has smelly carpets all over and seems dingy. Not worthy of the INTERCONTINENTAL BRAND.

Terrible Amex fine hotel benefits I’ll start by saying thank god I only booked one night, and I’m going back to the Hyatt regency after this. I booked this hotel with Amex fine hotels, and on the Amex website it clearly lists the property specific benefit is a $100 food and beverage credit, with no other restrictions listed. When I arrived the front desk informed me that the credit could only be used at a single restaurant, could only be used on a single check and excluded alcoholic beverages. This is simply not acceptable. They are able to list what their property specific credit is valid for in the Amex site, and if they lost a general food and beverages credit it needs to be valid for all dining options and including alcohol. This is one of the worst non compliance with the Amex FHR benefits I have experienced in maybe 40 bookings. Also at check in they basically provided the minimal required upgrade, and while this is within there right I was disappointed. When I then asked about a more significant upgrade I was told that unfortunately they were unable to do it because the hotel was fully booked this evening. This was an outright lie that could be easily verified by simply checking their website or app for tonight’s availability. While they are not required to provide a more significant upgrade, lying to me about being full and that being the reason is simply unacceptable.

Fantastic everything! We recently stayed for a week at the Intercontinental Sofia (part of a Package with British Airways Holidays) and we had a fantastic stay. The hotel is very well located, very central and it is possible to walk everywhere in the city! The room (room 609) and the bathroom were superb, very generous size and we had a TRULY spectacular view from the room over the cathedral "Saint Alexander Nevsky", the room also had a beautiful and large terrace overlooking the cathedral! The breakfast was equally good, in both the restaurant and the Club Intercontinental, with everything available. The buffet was very generous with a great selection of food and beverages! Finally, the staff at the hotel was excellent: very attentive and always happy to assist. The Head Concierge Todor was very helpful and organised a memorable trip to Rila Monastery and also recommended some excellent restaurants: and we want to say a special THANK YOU to Svetomir at the Club Intercontinental: he was ALWAYS very attentive, friendly and he had this wonderful "can do" attitude!
