Currently Closed Note that Sooke Harbour House closed in early 2020 (we stayed there in Feb 2020). It underwent an ownership change in mid-20202 and the new owners intend to re-open but as of Feb 2021 it is closed due to Covid. Looking forward to seeing it back in operation.

Hotelk Canccleed on us 2 Days prior to arrival Two days before we are due to arrive, with ferry reservations booked and all kinds of other arrangements made and this hotel decides to arbitrarily cancel our hotel booking, WHY? Totally unsatisfactory. The phone number to contact has a recorded message and no other means to speak to them. We are now out of pocket and had to scramble to find somewhere else at much more money. Don't book or stay at this hotel

Anniversary Getaway Stayed three nights for our anniversary over the Valentines Day weekend. Delightful young clerk checked us in and showed us to our room. The room was very comfortable with an inside tub, soaker tub outside on the balcony and steam shower. We dined in the Copper Room on Valentine's Day. The place was clearly overbooked and the kitchen was hard-pressed to keep up, even with a fixed menu for the evening. In spite of this the meal was delicious, as were breakfasts in the morning.

An Enchanting Resort . . . My wife and I arranged for a three day stay over Valentine's Day. It was our first experience with this facility and we were more than impressed - we were blown away. The natural setting the superb. The grounds are quaint and well-groomed. The rooms are cozy and well-equipped. Each has a unique theme and decor featuring antique pieces both inside the rooms and in the corridors. The in-room woodburning fireplace was truly the pièce de résistance! The Copper Room restaurant is also cozy and features good food and snug atmosphere with a roaring fireplace. We did have one major observation though. We don't currently own a dog or dogs and, if we did, would certainly not travel with it/them. So it definitely got our attention to see what a pet-friendly property the Sooke Harbour House is - to a fault. While the hotel seems filled to capacity for Valentine's Day, it seemed like fully a third to a half of the guests had a dog or multiple dogs with them. And not all of them were small dogs. Going out the back of the property, down from our scenic balcony, we were surprised by aggressive barking coming from a dog on the porch of the adjacent room. There was also a very large dog angrily barking at us from an upper balcony. While we will definitely be back to SHH (we've already booked our next visit), we must say that we hope that our canine--rich experience is not repeated. We love locations such as the SHH for the peace and quiet and for the ability to get away from the rigamarole of everyday life. For us that includes not being constantly besieged by a barking menagerie where we are staying. One more thing, non-slip bathmats in the bath tubs would be an excellent and prudent idea. All in all, we congratulate the ownership and staff of SHH and look forward to our next visit.

Lunch at The Copper Room We dined at the Copper Room with family and had the most delightful lunch. Not only is the food outstanding but the ambience is stunning and the waitstaff was very polite and attentive. I am returning soon :)
