Vacation Recently spent our second time at this gem of a hotel. Spent the night prior to leaving on vacation. The suite we had was huge! And more importantly it was spotless. The staff at the front desk were friendly. Upon our vacation plans being cancelled due to covid 19. I called two days later as I prepaid for the parking for a week. They immediately sent an email refund to my credit card. Such efficient service. We will definitely be staying at the Crowne Plaza Montreal again for future travel.

Mandatory 3 day stay I chose to stay here because of its proximity to the airport. It was a mistake. I was doing my mandatory 3 day quarantine stay after crossing the border. Upon check in, I was forced to sign a "no refund" clause or they wouldn't check me in. I had no choice and this is how the stay started. I was railroaded and that was just the tip of the iceberg. Since I was preparing to stay by myself for 3 days, I upgraded to an executive king suite. The room I got was no different than any small hotel room yet I payed extra. The food they served was inedible. For the money I was paying, I expected it to show up on a cart with real cutlery and at least get some value for what I was paying for. They delivered the food on the floor. I don't eat off the floor especially for $313 a night. They used foam bowls and cups along with plastic cutlery. This was the cheapest of cheap and disgraceful. Dinner was cold, fruit cup came from a can, a Costco roll in plastic wrap and a butter cup. Breakfast was worse. They served half a bowl of cornflakes in a foam bowl with a miniature foam cup for coffee. After I received my negative COVID test, I left after 36 hours with no refund on the last day feeling disgusted and taken advantage of. I was appalled that this can go on in Canada today and this manager should be labelled a slum lord. My bill was over a thousand dollars for inedible food and just 36 hours of accommodation.

COVID-19 mandatory hotel stopover Thank you Connie. You are the gem of Crowne plaza. Eventhough we had minimum contact and communication with hotel staff, I find them friendly and accomodating. Food choice is limited but delicious meals for GAA package. Room is spacious.

The Covid hell hotel I had to stay here because of the Covid rules . I have been here 2 miserable nights . The rooms are depressing and filthy . They make you choose from 3 choices of meals which are served sloppily in aluminum containers and there is no danger of overeating your 1500 calories per day. Even don’t dare ask for more than 1 bottle of water per meal!!! And you can go and walk in the most dystopic depressing parking lot I have ever seen that stinks of manure !

Worn Out I am normally not a regular at IHG properties due to subpar elite benefits and when in Montreal it’s no exception. However this time I tried something new and I decided to book at Crowne Plaza YUL rather than returning to properties where I am more familiar with in the area. I found CP to be worn out and disappointing and I am very unlikely to return in the future. The hotel is not far from the airport and normally has a shuttle bus (although currently suspended due to covid), however it’s clearly not as close to the airport as other hotels such as Sheraton, Aloft, or DoubleTree so for me the location of CP is inferior. One positive is that parking was free unlike those three other hotels. I booked the entry level room and as Platinum guest I do not think I received much of an upgrade despite the hotel being very low occupancy; I believe I might have been in an executive room. The room was not impressive to say the least – there was a disgusting heating block / air conditioning by the wall and very loud too, the toilet was not flushing well, the sink had seen better days, etc. The only positive is that the bed was comfortable. The room was a far cry from the renovated suite upgrade I often have at Sheraton YUL which is in a similar price range as CP, and even when I don’t have a suite at Sheraton the hardware is much nicer and newer than at CP which looks ancient by comparison. I also prefer the rooms at Aloft and DoubleTree, both of which are newer hotels than CP. Because I booked a corporate rate, I had breakfast included otherwise the elite benefits would have been even more subpar than they already were, compared to other hotel chains. Like many hotels during covid in Canada, the breakfast was nothing to write home about, but at least at CP it was not as bad as what I have seen in some other hotels recently. They even had a turkey sandwich which was a break from standard boring breakfasts. Wifi worked ok with download speeds of about 5 Mbps but upload was ranging from 0.1 to 0.9 Mbps which was unacceptably bad and made it difficult to have Zoom or Skype calls. Overall I cannot recommend this property except perhaps for people who want to take advantage of free parking. The hotel is well past its prime, prices are not even cheap relative to other more recent alternatives, the location is not the best, room upgrades are stingy, and the hotel does not have a club lounge unlike Sheraton were elite guests get free access. Next time CP will be a hard pass for me.
