Very relaxing, very friendly staff at reception desk This place is a little difficult to find, you need to be persistent because the signage is not great, and at nighttime, it is all but impossible to find...so be sure to arrive in the daytime. Looking at some earlier reviews, yes, without a doubt this was a state-of-the-art place 30 years ago, and is not state-of-the-art now, but it is reasonably well maintained and the views are great and the solitude is excellent. If you want a hotel with every possible modern amenity, then this is probably not the best choice. If you want to get away from urban areas, then this could be an option. The staff is extremely professional and courteous. The restaurant food was above average, and the views from the restaurant are extraordinary. The spa facilities are adequate, a little more limited in scope and size than we expected, but sufficient for basic needs. The facilities could use some renovation, the rooms while large, are relatively basic but the balconies do offer great views. You need a car if you stay here because the surrounding terrain is steep and even though you can see the old town of St. Paul de Vence on the hill, and its quite close, you would need to be a bird in order to easily access the town. Driving to the old town requires some good navigational skills, don't expect GPS systems to work very well here. Alternately if you love to hike, then you can do so here. Staying here is very different from staying in Cannes or Nice or Monte Carlo, there is no hustle and bustle, so its easy to relax. There is a relatively small swimming pool, it was not heated when we were there. At the foot of teh road that leads up the valley is a huge, new, open air shopping center known as Polygone Riviera, which offers a huge plethora of restaurants and many stores (H and M, Zara, Forever 21, department store Printemps). This is important, because of of season (non-summer) many of teh local restaurants in the surrounding area are closed or are open only for very limited hours.

In desperate need of some TLC Booked for 5 nights, and had read reviews, so expected rooms to be in need of updating. Greeted at reception by friendly staff, who said room had just been cleaned, we needed to wait while the floors dried. We were given info on hotel and tickets for a welcome drink, it would have been nice to have had the drink while we waited for the floors to dry! We were taken to the room, with no offer to assist with bags. The pool suite, was spacious and to be honest, well thought out, with separate shower/w.c to the main bathroom. But basic furnishings, that were in desperate need of refurbishment. Small TV, that looked more like a computer screen in lounge, with only French channels. Small fridge, for our own wine! Main bedroom with large double bed, waterproof mattress protectors, that we removed! Old fashioned bedding, not too sure when it was last laundered! Spacious dressing area, with hairdryer. Large bathtub with plenty of hot water, although again very tired. Small private pool in garden, that needed cleaning. Sun-beds, and wicker chairs, with rusty parasol completed the garden area. Lovely views over the countryside to sea in the distance. The wi-fi was free and worked ok in bedroom area. Main pool not heated, glass screens surrounding pool broken. Broken light in pool, not fixed. Grounds overgrown and uncared for. Breakfast on the first day was plentiful, over next few days, not so good. We had booked for 5 nights, but after breakfast on the 3rd day, left early. Hotel in a good location giving easy access to visit the villages of St Paul de Vence and surrounding area, definitely need to have a car, ample free parking. Although watch out for not parking close to other cars, so you do not get your car damaged by other cars opening their doors. Certainly does not warrant 4 stars.

Must have been wonderful 30 years ago The location and grounds are breathtaking, and the reception staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was big with an incredible balcony view. Unfortunately that's pretty much all the positive I can think of. The place is rundown, dated and it looks like no maintenance has been done in years. The phone wasn't working (And the lady at reception formidably pretended she didn't know), bathroom tiles were hanging out of the wall, wonky toilet flush, duct-tapped covering an air-vent, hair-dryer from another era, dirty linens, blankets (no duvet), dirty old carpets, mouldy swimming pool loungers... I could really go on and on. On the plus side, the place was very quiet, and the location is indeed idyllic with a wonderful view on the valley. Overall, it wasn't a terrible stay and we enjoyed the beautiful gardens and swimming pool, but I wouldn't recommend this place at all. This must have been an incredible place a few decades ago, too bad they are not keeping it up to 4* standards (god knows how they obtained 4*).

Do not stay here under any circumstances We stayed as part of a larger group, and had a dreadful experience. The hotel is clearly being run into the ground and will undoubtedly go under so I'm sure they don't really care about negative reviews, but my hope is that someone thinking of staying here will read this and save themselves from a horrible experience. Reception staff were very friendly and accommodating. That's where the positives end. Wait staff were rude and dismissive. The room had no safe. The room had no air con. The lights in the sitting area didn't work. The shower leaked. The bathroom smelt of damp. The water pressure made for a barely usable shower. The flush on one of the toilets wasn't working. And by far the most memorable (in a bad way) aspect of our stay was the wildlife. Nature enthusiasts will be thrilled at the opportunity to see roaches in the bathroom, rats in the garden, lizards in the bedroom, ants absolutely everywhere and reportedly (from another fellow guest) frogs in the bath. The fact we spent €500 a night would be annoying if it wasn't so funny.

Going downhill!! We checked in as part of a larger party and it was a very disappointing stay. The room had no air conditioning and was very dated. The staff seemed frustrated and I actually felt sorry for them. It seems the hotel is not being kept to standard. Much better value for money in the area.
