Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Sylva Dillsboro Area

Kudos to a well trained and very caring staff. This is not the usual review because the reason we stayed here is because we were stranded during Hurricane Helene and it was the last room available in the area. They had electricity but no water and no cell service or internet. That meant check in was the old fashion way, by hand notes. The staff was coping with all that was going on around them and yet managed to be really helpful and hospitable. The room was nice, the bed comfortable, but it was really the staff who made the stay memorable. After 12 hours of trying to navigate the unnavigable, without GPS assistance and on roads that did not show up on state maps, never being sure what was ahead, we really appreciated all the staff at the Sylva/Dillsboro Microtel did for us once we got there. They made the most of what little was available and made us feel welcome and appreciated.

Seat in Tub needs repair ASAP Rm 106 for disabled was nice and included fridge and microwave. No hangers. Bathroom no counter top for putting belongings on. Tub had pull down seat, but it would not fit into a track like it was suppose to. Felt like I would fall because it moved and popped when sitting on it. Breakfast ok. Price was higher than expected for room type with single Queen size bed.

If Wet One-Ply Toilet Paper Was a Hotel… The front desk employee was very friendly, that’s where the positives end. The day before our check in, I received an email offering an upgrade to a “suite”. I accepted and paid for the upgrade. When we arrived and checked into our room it was not a suite and smelled like a dank basement. There were pubic hairs in the bathroom sink and the tub. I immediately went to the front desk and was told our upgrade was “declined due to availability”, which is absurd. Why send an email with the offer when it isn’t available?! I requested a room change due to the conditions of the room. The second room smelled better, but that’s it. There was mildew all over the bathroom, the toilet seat was falling off, the hair dyer looked like a fire hazard, the TV had been taken off the wall and placed on the desk, the CABLE BOX (what hotel has cable in 2024?) was on the desk and was covered in dirt and dust (we had to have the front desk come up and setup the TV so we could actually watch it), the security latch was missing, and our socks turned black from the carpet. The mirrors on the walls, an old corded phone, and broken alarm clock were the main decor. There were no USB charging ports at all. The “breakfast” is a joke. I’ve had to drink a lot of bad coffee in my life, but this was by far the worst. Couldn’t even drink it. Add the multiple broken down vehicles in the parking lot, exterior doors that don’t close and lock (creating a serious security issue), and single ply toilet paper making this is one of the worst properties I have been to in awhile. Definitely won’t be staying here again.

Nice, clean facility Very helpful and pleasant staff. Room was comfortable and good-sized. Easy to get to building and close to town.

Will not stay again TV broke, phone broke. Room smelled terrible like a stale smell. Reported to desk and was not resolved.
