The Brasserie experience. Checked into Peckforton Castle today, which was a gift from our son for my husband’s birthday last year.
Upon arriving the hotel itself is very impressive. Staff at check in was very good. Room is small although we had upgraded. Only a wardrobe to hangs things in no drawer space at all. All staff very friendly and professional and nothing is too much trouble. Bar staff outside excellent. Must also mention Scott who has dealt with a few issues.
Unfortunately, we went for a meal in The Brasserie tonight and have left feeling disappointed. My husbands steak meal was fine but my sirloin steak I sent back as it wasn’t very good, it was replaced straight away. Unfortunately, the second steak wasn’t very good either. When the young waitress asked if everything was alright, my husband and I said no and pointed out about the two steaks. To my surprise, the young waitress then proceeded to tell me the difference between my Sirlon steak and my husband’s Rib Eye. How insulting, at my age I have had enough steaks to know what is the difference is. I ended up walking out of the restaurant and speaking to the very nice lady at Reception and explaining the reason I had left. And, I also realise you get what you pay for depending on where you eat. This is not what I expected at Peckforton Castle.

BASIC FOOD with POOR SERVICE We went for lunch yesterday a second time in six months.
The afternoon Tea was awful, ive had better in Morrisons cafe.
stale cheap produce, poor quality & very small portion….
The lunch menu offered a better choice at similar cost.
The service was Abysmal, obvs very short staffed & the lady serving was nothing short of RUDE to every table….
We were all made to feel like an inconvenience.
That said there was a nice young chap who was helpful
The castle is stunning & well kept, we loved the little herb garden & animal houses dotted about the grounds!
Also there was no baby changing facilities despite asking in advance & being assured there was.
Overall its nice for a walk & drink on a sunny day
But 100% dont waste time in restaurant - go to a country pub in area & get decent food

Mediocre afternoon tea Mediocre afternoon tea. Sandwiches nice enough but nothing special. Scones bland & jam was runny. And only one each of the cakes - I mean, are you seriously meant to cut a choux bun or a tiny tart in half??
Nice drive up to castle.
My advise - go elsewhere.

Awful awful stay Absolutely appalling stay at peckforton castle. Attended a wedding, upon entry we were overwhelmed at how beautiful the grounds were. Checked in with reception and directed to our room ( 501 ). The room was basic, dated and very dark with a foul smell, not what we were expecting. Realised there was an open sewer drain directly outside our room hence the smell. Dust covered EVERY surface of the room. Management were very reluctant to refund the cost of the room as she did not have that authority, but did end up offering the housekeeper to come and 're-clean' whilst we attended the wedding which we reluctantly agreed. 2 hours later, we were found and told our room was clean and asked to check. Upon approach to the room, the door had been left unlocked and open for anybody to access with an overwhelming smell of polish and sewage as the window had been left open. The manager, again, did not seem at all interested in our security concerns and advised us to send across the photos of the room we had taken prior to the clean on the promise she would pass them onto her manager within 2 days. Breakfast the next day was disgusting. Advised the server I couldn't eat egg....he brought my plate with 2 eggs placed on. Sent it back to receive the same plate 15 minutes later with egg residue over the remaining food. Explained to server that I couldn't eat it and he snatched the plate away with no offer of a replacement breakfast which led to an awkward dining experience for us both. Follow up email from 'management' was also recieved at 3.30 am....after receiving pictures and a video of the squalor of a room, offered us £34. Absolutely laughable. Wedding was absolutely beautiful but staff were rude ( except Elliott, he was wonderful ) and the toilets were abysmal.
I would not allow my dogs to stay in this room let alone pay £200 for it.

Lovely place… not gluten safe Beautiful castle for a wedding, couldn’t be prettier, but sadly our coeliac daughter was given gluten somehow and was very poorly.
I phoned in advance to double check the GF situation and was told they know what they are doing and to let them know who we were when we arrived - I felt reassured by this.
When at the wedding they brought out food and said ‘gluten free’ and so again I had complete trust that the food myself and my daughter eating was gluten free and suitable for coeliacs.
Sadly, within 15 minutes of eating her main course my daughter got stomach ache, and then half an hour later was then very poorly and spent over an hour in the toilet and with a sick bowl. As a little 8 year old she was so excited about the wedding, and was very upset to miss the speeches, and it was heartbreaking to see her crying and shaking whilst poorly, due to being fed something containing gluten.
I had one bite of her child’s dinner and had stabbing stomach ache, and so can confirm that her chicken dinner somehow had gluten in it. I spoke to someone from the kitchen who assured me it was all gluten free, however there must have been a mistake somewhere along the way, whether the wrong ingredients were used or there was cross contamination.
It’s devastating that our little girl had faith that she could eat what she was served, and then not only was very poorly on the day, has had stomach ache and upset tummy today (the day after) but her gastro consultant said that when consuming gluten it takes 6 months for her gut to repair, meaning low immune system, bloating and stomach ache.
I feel that a place that caters for weddings so regularly should be top notch when it comes to dietary needs, especially when it’s a medical requirement such as coeliac - sadly, Peckforton Castle was highly disappointing and I would warn people against eating there if they have allergies or intolerances.
