Room a little tired Great location in Vancouver but ready for a refurb. Hotel is being demolished this Autumn so the rooms were overpriced as the furniture was chipped and tired. Same for the bathroom. But, the bed and pillows were super comfy and the towels were all spotless and fluffy. The wine tasting hour was a fantastic touch. Met some lovely people and had some fantastic local wine. Our room was at the back so it was quiet and we got a fantastic night's sleep. Reception staff were efficient and friendly. The bus to Capillano bridge stops just on the other side of the road and it is less than 10 mins walk to Coal Harbour. There is a handy Safeway store about 5 mins walk away.

Unbelievably awful hotel - AVOID BEFORE ARRIVAL We booked this hotel for five nights, for about CAN$800 per night. A few weeks before arrival, we got an email from the hotel offering 5 nights for the price of four, so I asked to rebook under that offer. They ignored two emails over two weeks, and when I sent a third email saying if they didn't reply, I'd cancel the reservation, they replied and agreed to give me the benefit of that offer. ARRIVAL The receptionist's English was appalling. We couldn't understand her; she couldn't understand us. I wanted to pay with a different credit card to the one I'd reserved with, but they wouldn't let me. Irritating and bizarre. SEEING THE ROOM When we went to the room (which we were told was an upgrade), it was appalling. Granted it was a decent size, with a good size bed. But that's the only good thing that can be said about it. The carpet and curtains were filthy. It smelt bad. The bathroom was tiny - really tiny - and the shower was an attachment inside a 2/3rds size bath covered in stains. The shower curtain was old, ragged, mouldy and smelly. We went downstairs and asked the change rooms to one with a proper shower unit. Inititially they refused. After I inisted, they agreed, and we went to look at the new proposed room. It was just us dirty, dark and smelly. The carpet was revolting - I didn't want to tread on it with bare feet. The bathroom was again tiny. If I'd sat on the toilet, my knees would be outside the bathroom. LEAVING IMMEDIATELY I told the reception manager I wanted my money back and I was going to book elsewhere. She initially said she could not authorise a refund and her manage would need to do it - but the manager was not in till Monday (this was a Sarturday). We had paid for five nights in advance, and I was not prepared for a manager to refuse the refund two days later, so I insisted she call the manager off duty. She did, and the refund was agreed. We left, angry and tired. OTHER POINT We have since learned this hotel had some of its bathrooms refurbished six years ago, but the bedrooms have not been refurbished in over thirty years. The whole hotel is due to be demolished this coming autumn (2024), so they are clearly not interested in the guest experience.
