Wish it was staying open! We loved this quiet hotel and beach in Maui. We were sad to see that it was closing at the end of our stay. The service was excellent despite the fact that it was the last week for the employees. Many of them had not found another job by the time we left : (

Bye Bye Makena Resort Just got back from our very last trip to Makena Resort. Wanted to thank everyone there for continuing to provide excellent service despite the fact that the resort was closing. Again such an excellent experience that will be sorely missed. Not sure what Discovery Land Company has in mind, but it probably won't be anything that would be accessible to people like me. Sad day indeed.

Sad Aloha My wife and I have enjoyed many wonderful vacations here, first when it was the Maui Prince, and through the years until our last visit a few days ago. The Makena was a truly unique resort. The atrium and the grounds around the Koi pond were beautiful and quiet. The views from most of the rooms were great. On our last couple of visits, we splurged on ocean front rooms with fantastic views stretching from West Maui to Molokini to the Makena cinder cone. The staff were the friendliest and most helpful you could find anywhere. Mahalo nui loa to all of them. Not many places can do breakfast like the Makena. We've checked out a few of the other Hotels nearby in Wailea, but there's really nothing that can replace the Makena's beauty and serenity. We will miss it greatly. Aloha.

Maybe our stay affected by closing Dated hotel, for us not worth the price.....The highlights: Bed was comfortable, beach decent, staff at poolside bar friendly and accomodating. But if you looking for peaceful resort that you don't want to leave this isn't the place -- have to drive to get to any attractions/other restaurants, faucet in bathroom sink broke, shower weak. Pool chairs all with bird droppings, staff not as accommodating as one might expect for big resort. I give hotel and staff benefit of doubt - I'm sure our stay affected by the closing in near future. The property is beautiful and i think a makeover would do the hotel wonders!
