Nice Stay The Hotel Lombardy is an older charming hotel in a great location that is within walking distance to many of the attractions in DC. Stepping into the hotel in like walking back in time. We had a room overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue and it was clean and well kept. Every employee we encountered was warm, welcoming and attentive. We also used the park and stay package which was convenient and the Bellman took good care of our SUV. We will be sure to stay here again on our next trip to downtown DC.

First visit to DC We chose this hotel due to its location- close to lots of the main tourist spots, we were able to walk. Hotel was old style and very charming. The bar & breakfast area were lovely. Room was nice with small kitchen and bathroom was clean Only downside was the barman & breakfast server- not as friendly and helpful as the other staff. Enjoyed our stay

Think Twice Four couples stayed 3 nights. 3 couples got upgraded to suites. For same price, $350-400 @, we got the following: room overlooking the alley with trash trucks grinding and beeping starting at 6 a.m., no mirror in the room, 4 hangers, no water, one bathrobe ( which staff took the next day and I had to ask to return it)and no hook on the bathroom door to hang towels or a robe. Asked staff to assist and their response was that only the suites get the above amenities. Huh??? Advised them and the manager that this was unacceptable. Later that day, we got 4 extra hangers, hook on the door and one bottle of water. Beware of room 713. Bathtub has a liner which is dirty and dangerous. Floor of the tub is rubbery and has bumps and gives. Almost fell in the shower losing my balance. Next day came back after day of touring. 4pm and room not cleaned. Asked the cleaning staff why the room was not cleaned and she replied she was "busy." Addressed with front desk staff and the manager. Staff said this was my issue because I did not request them to clean the room. Again, huh?? Manager said unless we hang a tag indicating we want room serviced, they would not clean our room. No, it does not work this way. Staff clean your room unless you hang a tag on the door indicating do not disturb. Nope- manager said I was wrong. Got the tag from our room. The tag says on BOTH sides "Do Not Disturb." Showed the manager who said going forth they would clean our room. Manager told us we could check out if we did not like the hotel. What?? We never raised our voices, behaved politely but direct indicating we did not understand a hotel not providing basic room amenities. No response just a blank stare. Manager said she would transfer us to another room BUT "you need to do this immediately. If you do not, you lose out." Told her we had 3 couples waiting for us to visit museums and that this was not fair. Again, she said we could check out. Advised her that she needed customer service training. She asked what did we want. What?? Told her she is the manager and this is not a question you ask a customer. Finally, she said we could receive 50% off our bill for one night only. Guess it is better than nothing. While all of this might seem to be minor issues, having to ask for basic supplies, expecting the basics in a room, ask to have your room cleaned and expecting a manager to behave professionally is not much to expect at $400 a night.

Well located, lovely staff - but showing its age This hotel was fine for a week-long stay, not least because some of the door staff are extremely helpful (one was particularly hands-on in assisting with an issue with a taxi) and because of its optimum location, near a delightful market area and a short walk from the White House, Metro Center and several good coffee shops/lunch options. I would also compliment the cleaning staff, who were particularly dedicated and left the room in a much improved state, including re heating. Where it maybe fell down a little was the underwhelming breakfast (where options were somewhat limited; we generally skipped it) and, in particular, just an overall sense that the place is becoming a bit dilapidated. As a minor aside (but just as an example) the TV still offered analog channels with a poor picture - the previous hotel we had stayed in, in Northern Ireland, offered Netflix, Disney etc! So this was all a bit antediluvian! In the rooms, WiFi was also a bit slow for business visitors. You would also wonder about possibilities for disabled people, as access to rooms was often in practice only by elevator. One other curiosity was that we had a double room with only one bedside table! This was odd because, otherwise, storage was generally good - there were plenty of drawers and a whole cabinet (as well as a safe). There was a coffee machine which I made plenty of use of, though it was in the bathroom. While I appreciate this is seen as less of a problem in the United States than some other places, putting electric equipment close to a sink used for washing seemed, well, a risk to be wary of! These seem like a lot of criticisms but I would reinforce that they are aimed merely to point out what could be improved. The fact is we really enjoyed our stay here!

Charming Hotel We arrived very late for check in but staff were super helpful and got us in our room quickly and helped with the bags we’d brought. The room we were given was 1105 right next to the lift . This can be quite noisy and the almost constant sound of chairs scraping on a floor can be very annoying . Street noise is also quite loud and as our room was at the back of the hotel you hear quite a lot of deliveries and trash collecting going on the noise of reversing beepers going on from about 3am. We didn’t eat at the hotel or drink at the bar as we found a bar around the corner (2 right turns and across the street 5 mins walk) which served decent food and cold beer Called The Froggy Bottom Pub. Rooms are more like a small apartment . Small kitchenette with a coffee maker and fridge . We did find the lack of any cutlery or crockery strange or a kettle . Rooms are clean and functional . This is an older property with its quirks but generally ok. Staff were always helpful. If you can walk well( husbands just had a new knee) most attractions are within walking distance ( White House15-20 mins , Capitol Building 1 hr) . We like the walk and as the weather was great it’s good to see the city. We were here when the cherry blossom festival was on and had 2 glorious days before the rain moved in. Coffee shop with great cakes and lunch menu Tatte just 5 mins walk . We didn’t try the coffee shop next door. Be aware that most of the big attractions need a free timed entry ticket which you are best booking as far ahead as possible . We’re doing a road trip so will now have to navigate the city. Tip for Picking up rental car if you have luggage ask taxi/ Uber to drop you at car rental return , you get a ticket to enter and the driver doesn’t have to pay to leave as long as he has the ticket .
