Beach chair bingo, no where to actually lounge We stayed for a short visit, there are no lack of people who wake up very early to "claim" beach chairs and then occupy them for the next 9 hours. Had an uncomfortable interaction with a Karen that insisted that multiple chairs that were completely empty were in fact hers. She claimed a row of chairs and was very rude about it. The establishment needs to add more umbrellas and chairs to end this. Beach and food were lovely and the service was very good, but I hate paying top rate and having to fight (literally) for a spot to sit.

Great day on a resort pass! We bought resort for a day pass while our cruise ship was in port. It was a beautiful day and our bartender Jamie was fantastic and made us great drinks. Our servers were also great and the food was good and the pool was clean and lots of space to spread out and relax.

Superb Great stay - very comfortable hotel - very spacious and clean rooms. Loved the interesting in-room fridges (built into a side unit). Issued with plastic water bottles and hence trip to one of the water dispensers on the landing. Staff were great and very friendly, both restaurants, reception or cleaning staff - everyone had a 'Bon Bini' ! Had to swap rooms after a couple of days ( first couple of nights were award nights) but no big problem. Not going to be a budget holiday - but here is a money saving tip. Rather than take a Taxi into town, try one of the wee shuttle buses - stop at the end of the drive - US$2 vs US$20. To get back at the bus station look for a transit bus with the sign for 'Boca JanDoret' , or follow uniformed Marriott staff !

A Marriott that punches way above its hotel category & brand - must book! My wife & two year old son enjoyed an incredible 5-night stay over July 4th holiday time and are so excited to recommend this hotel to friends (which we already have!) as well as the general public. When we are able to get away, we usually stay at the St. Regis/Four Seasons/Ritz category level. However in Curacao there are more limited luxury options and we wanted great value & experience for the money. The Marriott truly delivers this and more and I'm personally baffled by those who have rated it anything but 5 stars. It's a MARRIOTT! You have to rate it against that category & brand and be practical about what you will and will not get. I don't think I've seen a Marriott property in all my travels that has this type of boutique feel to it and private / secluded beach. Rare! It feels like you're on a movie set with the landscaping and grounds. We did go off-season and at a time when there were no weddings or large events which helped but the hotel doesn't have that impersonal & factory feel you often get at Marriott resorts. It was large enough that you could get privacy but not so much so that getting around takes forever. Specific things we loved: -Very easy to rent a car - do it through the hotel. It will save you from $25+ each way taxis. The island is gorgeous and worth driving around. Park at the nearby Renaissance to walk into town. We're not the type to usually rent a car but this is an island where it significantly enhances your experience. C-spice is a solid restaurant but the best dining is outside the property. We loved Sal the Kitchen and BKLYN as foodies. Fort Nassau was recommended by the hotel and has stunning views but food was mediocre. -Service was very friendly & warm and easy to flag down from the beach & pool if you need service. Stephanie at reception is truly one of a kind and a reason why we'll likely come back again next year. She made our stay amazing - thank you. They need to do whatever they can to keep her at the property. Gary (GM) was very responsive and helpful as we messaged some questions prior to the stay -We paid for an upgrade to a suite room which is 3x the size of the normal ones and is well worth the extra cost if available. It's oceanfront and well-designed. -Very easy to get chairs and the cabanas by the pool are FREE which was quite shocking so take advantage of them (again we went off-season so your experience may differ in high season) -Water temperature in the pool was one of the best I've ever experienced - perfect to get in! -Prices were very reasonable given the exchange rate. $14 cocktails by the pool is lower than you'll see these days at resorts. Overall very fair pricing. Specific things to keep in mind: -Water is safe to drink at the property so no need to buy bottles of water. Use the water stations around the property as the water flowing from the taps in the room during the day can be warm. -Go with the flow! It's a Marriott on a very chill island. Be willing to go to the staff directly for help instead of expecting them to always cater to you. Expect check-in to take time (if you're an Elite there is a desk on the side - we missed that). -Breakfast can have a wait especially if you want to sit inside on a hot morning so budget some time. We found the breakfast to be solid and there are included options in the buffet like fresh squeezed juice that may not be apparent so look out for them -As mentioned food at the property is functional but if you're a foodie drive nearby. Mambo Beach is a short drive and has many options -The beach is really nice but it's not Turks & Caicos! Have the right expectations and you'll need water shoes to get in the water due to the rocks What could make the hotel even better: -Again, it's a Marriott and it checks all the boxes and more at this category & brand. That said a few things come to mind -We found the beds to be on the harder side and pillows on the softer side. You get used to it but confirms other reviews -We would love it if the property extended Elites access to both the lounge and restaurant breakfast instead of making you choose. Or at least give you access passes to the lounge for a few visits. We wish we had a chance to see it as picking breakfast in the restaurant made more sense for us -Offer fans in the room. The temperature is controlled and cannot go lower than 20/21 degrees Celsius. We usually need a colder room to sleep and without a fan are out of options. Not a deal breaker but having an option for a fan would have made our sleep better Overall - this is an EXCELLENT property and we will definitely visit again. Curacao is a magical island that is off the major hurricane path (has never gotten a direct hit) and I'm sure will continue to become more and more popular. Go sooner than later and stay at the Marriott!
