Pet Friendly Safe Place to stay in middle of Wilmington, NC After a long road trip, traveling with my wonderful cat, and being turned away at two other places, when I tried the Red Roof Inn, the front desk agent could not have been friendlier, patient, helpful, and kind. The room had two queen beds, one side soft and one side firmer; the fridge was cold, my cat had a window to look out of, and it was all I needed for my brief trip. Check out was super easy as well! Thank you Dakari:)

“NOT PET FRIENDLY…..NOT EVEN AT ALL FRIENDLY!!!” I have stayed here several times before, but not since 2017 (check out my previous reviews), and not since new management took over. It was always a roll of the dice in the past, but things had definitely improved by 2017. However, that must have taken a turn down again since 2017. I planned to stay for two nights while visiting Wilmington, and I made my reservations through the call center; as I was redeeming two free earned nights. I was winding down from a four week road trip, and Wilmington was one of my last stops. On a side note; I had stayed at several other Red Roof Inns on this trip…,all without problems. I was less than an hour away from here, when they called me. I was on the phone with someone else when they called me, so I didn’t see them calling. When I called them back; the desk clerk, Ronald; denied calling me. I then checked the voice mail, and they had indeed called me. The call was made by front desk Manager Mariah V. Her voice mail informed me that they were cancelling my reservation, because my pets were rabbits, and she compared them to snakes. My three litter box trained rabbits, which I had informed the call center about; are VA service animals, and have been to countless Red Roof Inns in 25 different states. However, Mariah…and her manager (both new since 2017) are making up their own rules and saying only dogs are allowed. I called the Red Roof Inn call center, and they told me that the Wilmington location cannot do this. I called Ronald back at the front desk, and informed him of this. He seemed incompetent and unable to make decisions. I drove to the location, very upset; and he made some phone calls that confirmed that I had the right to be there with my three rabbits. With all this time consuming commotion going on; I informed him that I very badly needed to use the bathroom, as I had recently drank a big ice coffee. He said that the lobby bathroom was only for guests, and that I could not use it; although he was ready to check me in as a guest. I told him that I couldn’t hold it, and would have to wet my pants, or pee on the floor. I was twisting and turning in agony, as I filled out the paperwork. When I finally got my room, there was a used condom wrapper on the floor and chewing gum, stuck to the side of the night table. That being said; all the furniture, and utilities; were adequate. When it came time to finally check out; I had a civil conversation with Rocky, who blamed the miscommunication on the call center. He also insisted upon making up his own rules about only dogs being allowed. I wanted to talk to Mariah, to clear things up; but she was not present, so it was suggested that I call her another time. Well, a week went by and I took the time to call her. The conversation started off okay, but she became ever increasingly confrontational, hostile, rude, and argumentative. She brought up that Ronald (who is not competent enough to manage the desk alone); defended my complaint against him during my last day conversation Rocky; that I had threatened to pee on the floor, if I could not use the lobby restroom. I knew that Ronald was incompetent; but I didn’t think that he would take my flippant remark out of context. And yet Mariah thinks it’s okay to answer the phone by calling me “sweetie”, and referring to me as “dear” on the cancellation phone message; which is highly unprofessional. Rocky got on the phone, and told me that I was not currently a guest there, and that I was wasting their time. Whereas, I had hoped that my departing civil conversation with Rocky, had cleared things up for possible future stays; that quickly turned the other way with Mariah V. I will never stay there again, and I recommend that no else does. One final thing is that I actually left the room cleaner than when I found it (I actually travel with cleaning materials), after having to pick up the used condom wrapper, chewing gum, etc. It’s obvious that the housekeeping staff pays little attention to cleaning, and even the bottom of my feet & socks became dirty. Also, as I was driving off on Monday 09-October, after getting an ice coffee from nearby; there was a Police car and an ambulance at the hotel, so I can only imagine what type of things happen there. Red Roof Inn Corporate should replace the entire staff. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Worst hotel in my 62 years Where do I start???? No towels, riff raff hanging out in chairs in front of all rooms smoking a, talking loud, drunk. Door between our room and the next room was non existent, I could actually see light and hear every word all evening and night from the hillbillies next to us. Shower curtain barely hanging on. Floor sticky. The kicker is réception was going to charge $160 deposit to cover any damage. I don’t see how you could make room worse.

BEWARE! Sketchy and Skanky, Dark and Dirty. Not only the worst Red Roof Inn I’ve ever stayed, quite probably the worst motel overall. I can’t believe corporate lets them keep the name. Where to even start? No fire alarm in our room. Wall bracket was there, but the alarm was not. There was mold/mildew on the bathroom ceiling over the tub. The tub had no stopper, so it’s showers only. There was mold/mildew on most of the lampshades in the main room. The curtain was off the curtain rod for a large area in the center of the window, so the curtain hung down, drooped, and did not block the light, plus it was ugly. We found a large straight strand of black hair in one of the beds. I have added photos of the mold, broken furniture, missing fire alarm to my review. Google advertised it as having breakfast, and there was a breakfast area adjoining the lobby, with a counter and toasters and whatnot, but they no longer serve breakfast. Rooms are exterior entry, the pool area was a barrier to parking, so there was no way to park close to the room. At night, it was dark, with some of the exterior lights either out or flickering. Sketchy looking men were wandering around and cutting through the parking lot. Did not feel safe. Some older motels, one might think “they need a new coat of paint.” This one is in need of a bulldozer. To compare it to a truck stop no-name budget motel is insulting to any self-respecting truck stop budget motels out there. This morning, I brought my concerns to the front desk (I arrived late, last night). Desk manager assured me he would look into it. But, no mitigation offered. Do yourself a favor. Don’t stay here. Gave it one star, only because Zero Stars or Negative Number Stars are not an option.

Family friendly and greeted with a smile! Me and my family arrived early but was still helped and welcomed into a room. The service was great and couldn't ask for any better in my opinion. My kids felt safe and the whole experience was pleasant. 10/10 would stay again.
