I gave this two stars but I wish I could have graded several aspects of my experience with my order. Five stars for ease of ordering and Splash customer service. One or stars for representation of the quality of wines.
First, I would give five stars for the ease of ordering and the customer service provided by Splash Wines. Other reviewers mentioned terrible customer experience from ordering wines and not receiving them, to having difficulty with locating and applying the Groupon vouchers to their order. I didn’t experience any of this. I ordered two Groupons and I initially tried to order one shipment of two cases of wine and apply the two vouchers to one order but Splash Wines wouldn’t let me do that. So, I just had to place two separate orders of one case each and those went through just fine. One shipment of wines arrived relatively quickly, but my other shipment was damaged so it was undeliverable. FedEx said I needed to contact the shipper for a resolution, so I called Splash Wines and they immediately ordered a replacement shipment, which arrived very quickly. Again, my customer experience was awesome.
Now for why I would give one or zero stars. I feel the quality of the wines was very misleading. I am not sure if this is Groupon’s or Splash Wine’s fault. But when they advertise a collection of 15 “cellar” wines that are originally worth $450, my Kentucky high school math skills tell me that these wines should originally be worth around $30 apiece on average. Once I received the wines, I tried looking up their ratings and prices, only to find that these wines sell for anywhere from $5-$15, with most prices only being available from the Splash Wines website. I am not a wine snob and I haven’t tried the wines yet and I know that I may actually like most or even all of them. But I would say that there needs to be more truth in advertising the true original costs of the wines.
Therefore, my two-star rating was heavily slanted to the quality of wines and their advertised original prices. You may want to skip this Groupon and go directly to the Splash Wines website where can get these wines at the prices I found, but you would also get free shipping on deliveries over $100, whereas I had to pay $35 shipping for each case through the Groupon.
