The Denali Backcountry Adventure will take you along the full 92.5 mile Denali National Park Road to the amazing Denali Backcountry Lodge. Along the way, our local guides will ensure you the best opportunities to view the legendary beauty of the Denali National Park with breath taking scenery and wildlife sightings such as bears, moose, caribou and more. After a complete morning of sightseeing, you will arrive at the idyllic frontier land of Kantishna. Here you will enjoy a unique and hearty creek side buffet lunch at our Miner’s Day Lodge. After lunch, you could try your hand at gold panning in Moose Creek, or join an experienced naturalist on a guided hike to Fannie Quigley’s pioneer cabin or on a botany walk.
Enjoy a guided hike up one of Seward’s most beloved mountains. On this moderate to difficult hike you will enjoy the ascent through hemlock and spruce forest which opens into alpine meadows with spectacular vistas of Seward and the Kenai Fjords. ABOUT THIS HIKETake your Matanuska Glacier experience to the next level. Go a little further and higher on the glacier and get up close to bottomless crevasses and the top of the ice fall. Your experienced guide will set up a rope and anchor system to allow you to safely explore some of the more technical features of the glacier and go beyond the Ice Fall. Explore the hidden treasures of the Matanuska glacier on this 10-hour day trip from Anchorage (includes 2 hour drive time each way from Anchorage). Use mountaineering crampons to actually “walk on water” as you hike the glacier with a professional guide. See close-up views of the best accessible features of the glacier including crevasses, seracs, unique ice formations as well as the high point with views of a beautiful ice fall. With round trip transportation, proper instructions, and the equipment necessary you will have a fantastic experience on an actual glacier.
You will start your day in Anchorage with a fully guided tour during the scenic 2.5-hour drive to Talkeetna, Alaska. Upon arrival you will be treated to a hearty Alaskan meal before you arrive at the Jet Boat. Your 2-hour jet tour will begin aboard an enclosed jet boat, as it whisks you into the heart of the wilderness in comfort. As you travel twenty miles of river wilderness, a Naturalist guide will talk about the rivers in the area, as well as information about Mt Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley.) You will have opportunities to view nesting bald eagles and beavers who seem to work every hour that the long light of summer provides. Upon arriving at the adventure site, we will take a leisurely ¼-mile nature walk to a Dena’ina Indian Encampment. The Dena’ina have lived in these lands since time immemorial. Then it’s off to an authentic trapper’s cabin with original furnishings. Learn how early trappers in this region lived in “Bush” Alaska at the turn of the century.
Take a shuttle along the glacier-carved shores of the Turnagain Arm, scoping out craggy cliffs for Dall sheep and scanning the water for surfacing beluga whales. On this guided excursion, take a scenic drive outside of Anchorage and spend some time visiting orphaned animals at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.Get picked up from the Anchorage Visitors Center, where you can hop in a comfortable shuttle and let your guide plot a course to to the south. Pass through Chugach State Park, along waterfront roads that offer sweeping views of the Turnagain Arm. Look for beluga whales coming in from Cook Inlet, try and spot eagles nesting in evergreen treetops, and spot Dall sheep framed against the black backdrop of steep mountainsides.
