Although Christopher Paul is a professional photographer, he doesn’t like having his picture taken. Since he knows what it’s like to feel a little uncomfortable on the other side of the lens, he spends his time crafting shoots that are as engaging and easy-going as possible for his subjects, whether he’s capturing family portraits, engagement photos, or keepsake wedding stills. Rather than working out of a studio, for example, he always shoots at a location of the subject’s choosing. He prefers shooting outdoors. People not only tend to relax outside, but natural light is far more flattering than that of a flashbulb. He also shows subjects proofs during as they pose, so they aren’t surprised by their final shots.
At seven locations throughout Chicagoland and northwest Indiana and several international sister sites, Eivan’s photographers and videographers preserve memories with a fusion of traditional, photojournalistic, and candid styles. The company's photographers capture family and engagement portraits and have earned recognition for their personalized touch at weddings.
They took home a win in the photography category of TheKnot.com's Best of Weddings competition in 2011 and 2012 and earned one of WeddingWire's 2012 Bride's Choice Awards. A crew of professional cinematographers records the details of the big day, adding soundtracks and special effects. With color-correction technology, the filmmakers can brighten up dark footage or blot the red out of the bride's cheeks during the maid of honor's toast.
The eagle-eyed shutterbugs at Lasting Memories capture fleeting moments with pristine, high-resolution pictures. During photo shoots, the skilled photogs encourage groups to forgo complicated cheerleading pyramids and instead line up in front of the camera casually for a more natural feel. Cameras snap away at weddings, preserving the day in printed images. Digital images are also available, enabling easy sharing online or photoshopping into pictures of historic events. The company’s wide-ranging services also include video transfer and photo-booth rental, where party guests can hop in and create their own memories in 4”x6” images.
What do VHS tapes, Betamax tapes, 8mm film, and film negatives all have in common? Besides being terribly outdated, they often hold some of our most precious memories. Fortunately, the folks at Memorable have created a simple way in which to not only organize those memories, but preserve them for posterity.
Here's how it works: First, Memorable scans and syncs material from the full range of media formats into pristine digital form. Then it organizes memories into an easy-to-use digital timeline. Built-in tools allow you to view, edit, and share your memories, and adding them to your timeline as they unfold. Most importantly, you can trust that the staff will treat your originals with care. Thousands of people have already enlisted Memorable to protect their most-precious moments, something the staff views not only as an honor, but a responsibility.
With the advent of the digital age, calling movies “films” is becoming increasingly inaccurate, and Pixcel is at the forefront of this media shift. The digitization business started as a research project at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign focused on bringing old media to the modern world. That was more than a decade and five Fast and the Furious sequels ago. Nowadays, Pixcel has established a name for itself outside the academic sphere, digitizing not only family memorabilia, but massive archives for the Joffrey Ballet, the Arizona Department of Transportation, and the United States Geological Society. They transform analog formats—such as tape, film and photos—into digital HD files, which they can store on everything from DVDs to external hard drives.
