Joe Becerril doesn't want to train just one type of person. Instead, the certified personal trainer and owner of Elevate Functional Fitness prides himself on his ability to tailor programs for people of all athletic levels, such as beginners, body builders, and those with medical conditions. To do so, he taps into his fitness background, education, and supportive nature to challenge his clients to meet their own fitness goals, such as running a marathon or bench-pressing marathon runners.

At PRO Martial Arts, students of all ages learn the Korean arts of tae kwon do, hapkido, and tang soo do. The instructors guide students from white belt to black belt, helping them with age-appropriate goals such as cultivating scholastic excellence, burning off extra weight, or gaining the leg strength to beat schoolyard rivals at double dutch.
But PRO Martial Arts isn’t only focused on martial arts. It also torches calories in Zumba fitness classes, which use fast-paced dance moves set to Latin beats to tone cores and shed pounds. And cardio kickboxing classes focus on the fitness aspect of martial arts to slim down bodies.
In addition to offering its clientele increased athletic prowess with combat and fitness classes, PRO Martial Arts offers its youngest students invaluable knowledge about issues such as bullies or predators. It has classes that cover topics ranging from how to ask for help from adults and deal with cyberbullying to tips on recognizing strangers and their bad behavior.
Victory Lady Fitness Centers’ three locations offer supportive environments for women to get fit. Clients can individually pursue their weight-loss goals by working with free weights or swimming laps in the pool, or they can attend calorie-stomping group classes such as Zumba, belly dancing, kickboxing, kettlebell, and yoga. Personal trainers provide added boosts of motivation and accountability, helping each woman achieve her specific goal, be it dropping a dress size, preparing for a marathon, or becoming the first person to in the world to balance on one foot. Other gym perks include an outdoor boot camp, a running club, and meal-planning services.
Relatively speaking, Fahrenheit Fitness is less grueling than owner Tammy Thomas's last job. But that's only because her last job title was a firefighter. Now, instead of running into burning buildings or climbing redwoods to save kittens, she gets exercisers to sweat and burn calories by scheduling fitness classes such as Zumba and Pilates. For variety, students can sign up for one of her Mixed Fuel classes, which combine elements of kickboxing, yoga, and boot camp.
