Q&A with Emily, Owner Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated? Our workouts are different every day. We change it up with new movements and patterns to avoid boredom, and participants learn functional movements that help them with everyday activities. They also learn new skills, such as gymnastic movements and olympic lifting, which require a lot of practice to master. Sweating to the oldies is acceptable, but sweating to the blues less so. Do you find that certain styles and genres of music generate more intense workouts? Dance music, rock, and pop. We listen to anything with a great beat. Besides working out, what else can clients do to spend their time at your facility? Yoga, kids CrossFit, community events, and birthday parties. Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover? We are the first and only women-only CrossFit studio in Colorado. We do offer two co-ed classes each week to accommodate families, and have a full service kids CrossFit program.

Registration required: Yes Good for beginners: Yes Average class length: 30-60 minutes Number of Staff: 1–5 people Class location: Indoors only Established: 2013 Guests allowed: No Parking: Parking lot Pro Tip: Please introduce yourself to our instructors and let them know about any difficulties you may have. Q&A with Corey Feldman, Owner Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated? We change up the workouts frequently and offer different measures so people can see that they are achieving their goals. They keep packets to write down reps and weights. Many members wouldn't have dreamt of attempting a burpee when they started, now they can do them (even if they don't like them). We also try and check in with people to find out if they are getting discouraged, and try to find ways to change things to accommodate them. Because we operate as a family, it allows us to build strong relationships with people and they feel more comfortable opening up. What's the most radical physical transformation you've seen a client make? A client dropped his cholesterol by 70 points following our nutrition and exercise program. We have another client with multiple sclerosis who maintains his ability to walk because of his workout routine and medical advise from owner, Corey Feldman. Do you run your gym according to a particular exercise philosophy? We look at healthcare from every angle—your internal health is just as critical to staying active and eating healthy. That is why we combine all three aspects of nutrition, fitness, and healthcare and have an onsite physician assistant who can help with every-day healthcare questions or physicals. We create nutrition plans that are sustainable based on a person's lifestyle and with an understanding that time or picky kids may need to be a factor in meal planning. Our goal is to create a supportive environment for all, no matter their fitness level. We always offer three levels to every workout. Ultimately, the studio is an extended family for us. We welcome kids in the studio because we don't want parents to have to choose between their families and their health. The small group sizes also allow for more one-on-one attention. Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover? We also offer an extensive women's self-defense program in a safe and secure environment. We have people on staff who have been directly affected by violence and can teach you easy moves that will help you to protect yourself.

  • Lee's Cyclery
Since its 1963 debut, Lee's Cyclery has aided athletes in their quests for comfortable bikes and high-quality cycling accessories. Before customers pick out a bike, employees conduct fittings that could affect the customer’s bicycle selection and help evaluate a person's ability to warn fellow cyclists of wormholes lurking ahead. Riders then choose from a variety of brand-name cycles from companies such as Trek, which created the two-wheeler that made Lance Armstrong a champion, and Electra, which crafts stylish and comfortable commuter bikes. Patrons can take roadsters for test drives before committing to a purchase, and all bike purchases include a free tune-up and a lifetime's worth of adjustments. The shop also carries biking accessories and gear, including high-performance racing apparel from Pearl Izumi. Lee’s Cyclery lets customers practice wheelies in Riding 101, a two-part bike-safety class that combines classroom learning with on-the-road practice. Meanwhile, the service department happily performs 26-point inspections and routine tune-ups to keep axles spinning more smoothly than the spindles of Rumpelstiltskin's BMX bike.

  • Sun Do Sul
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? We train our students not only to be physically fit but to respect others and find friendship and understanding in all relationships that they have. We encourage families to train together to create a deeper bond than experienced anywhere else, while learning to overcome any obstacle they may face. What's one tip for first-time students that will make them feel like veterans? Don't be afraid to ask. At some point or another we all stood where you are. We can all relate to the feeling of being new. If ever you run into a problem you should never be afraid to ask anyone around you for help. All of us will be happy to welcome you into the family anyway we can. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? We all have a passion to help others gain the tools to overcome your obstacles. We all want to help those who need it and through Martial Arts we have the opportunity to not only help guide but help others prepare for the many obstacles that will be encountered throughout life. What do you love most about your job? I love my job because it is the perfect chance to help others learn skills not taught in schools. I can help shape futures for the better through simply helping someone learn about and discover the physical and mental power they have. I get to teach adult and kids to stay positive in themselves.

  • SkateStart
SkateStart owner Patrick O'Toole started his skating career as many people do: by falling down constantly while skating a faulty board. He wanted to spend time with his skateboarding cousins, so his father bought him a generic, unresponsive deck from a big-box store. It barely rolled and always cancelled their playtime last minute to watch soap operas. His junky equipment and lack of knowledge kept him from keeping up with his peers. It wasn't until his father surprised him with a safe, professional skate set that his cousins finally slowed down and began teaching him the ins and outs of thrashing cement waves. Now in his 20s, Patrick makes it his professional mission to teach the next generation of skaters the proper techniques they need to enjoy the sport. He and his team of certified instructors use his patent-pending skateboard system that shows beginners where to place their feet to push off, perform an ollie, and avoid tripping a board's self-destruct countdown. In addition to imparting fundamental skills, their lessons also build up the confidence necessary to tackle more complex maneuvers.
