Paint & Party Studio proves creating art can be a fun, social experience. Once clients pick a date and project from the calendar, all they have to do is show up at the studio, take a seat before any of the blank canvases propped up on miniature easels, and get to work expressing themselves, as they've been meaning to do since Madonna suggested it 25 years ago. If they like, they can also uncork a bottle of wine or uncap a beer to sip while following their artist's step-by-step instructions.

Since 1938, the keepers of the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden have cultivated more than 85 acres of floral displays with a mixture of science and art. The gardens are lush with plants valuable to scientists and educators, and the tropical landscapes designed by William Lyman Phillips are like ever-evolving canvases, blooming and fading as the seasons change. Most of the palms, cycads, flowering trees, and vines were collected from the wild, but the grounds also harbor endangered plant species.
Guides give English and Spanish tram tours as well as walking tours through specific parts of the gardens, or visitors can explore the displays at their leisure, wandering through the 16,428-square foot two-level Tropical Plant Conservatory exhibit, which blooms with orchids, fruit trees, and rare palms. Cascading waterfalls punctuate the stream flowing through the 2-acre Richard H. Simons Rainforest, where visitors admire the diverse plant life and reflect on the worldwide threat of rapidly vanishing rainforests. The Wings of the Tropics exhibit features thousands of exotic butterflies with tropical fish and rare plant life. Butterflies are released twice daily and the Butterfly Metamorphosis Lab lets kids experience them up close. The water gardens combine tranquility pools with waterfalls, sculpture, and lily pads to evoke a sense of calm.
For the eighth year in a row, the Miracle Mile of Downtown Coral Gables miraculously transforms into a mecca of art, culture, fashion, food, music, revelry, and even more art at Artopia. This season's celebration of Miami's most promising talent stuffs plenty of eye, ear, and mouth candy into just three hours. Here's a rundown of the highlights, so you can (at least attempt) to see it all:
The Theme: Steampunk, the subgenre that juxtaposes 19th century industrial steam-powered machinery and Victorian costumes, like Jane Eyre tricked out with vintage aviator goggles and gears under her bodice
The Art: Artopia packs peripheries with exhibitions from exciting local painters such as Courtney Einhorn, Torek Le Fresh, and Shot by Git, plus live performance art
The Music: Enjoy dance jams from DJ Anthony Pisano of the Brass Knuckles crew, who's rocked the decks at events for Jamie Foxx and Dwayne Wade
Other Artopia Fun: Gawk at the catwalk during a fashion showcase, or cheer as local artists vie for a prize grant at the New Times' MasterMind Awards ceremony
Bites and Libations: Culinary craftsmen and mixologist mechanics keep guests fueled with complimentary food, wine, beer, and cocktail samples
