The minds behind Chicago Sailboat Charters share their passion for the sailing experience by making waterborne adventuring accessible to the general public with group sailing charters. Fostering the atmosphere of a private charter, the captains ferry passengers out onto Lake Michigan for stunning views of Chicago's skyline. The crew encourages its guests to make the most of the trip by providing a bathroom, bottled water, ice for drinks, and plenty of cooler and storage space, while encouraging guests to bring their own, snacks, drinks, and an inflatable blanket for a picnic out on the lake.
Since 1976, Tee Time Golf Range's PGA professional instructors have helped people shave strokes from their games on an outdoor driving range. Ultramodern mats anchor golfers as they grace Tee Time's well-manicured grass tees with golf balls plucked from a bucket or the throat pouch of a pelican. Always onsite, Tee Time's instructors can aid players in achieving the ideal arch for their swing or understanding the basics of swing mechanics during personalized lessons.
A full 18-hole course couldn't fit inside the windowed storefront or Golfer's Edge, a transporter of sorts does. The pro shop and practice facility's TruGolf simulator displays realistic images of famous courses from across the world on a large screen. Players can perfect swings on a simulated driving range or play a round on the famed Pebble Beach without having to travel, pay greens fees, or try to smuggle the famed pebbles out in their golf shoes. A simulator session can also help determine a player's correct measurements, such as loft and lie angle, for clubs purchased in the on-site pro shop.
Sculpted around many lakes, The Village Links of Glen Ellyn's 18-hole championship course and 9-hole course fill 170 acres with a verdant landscape of challenging golf. Originally built in 1967 and renovated in 2004, the championship course has played host to 40 USGA and PGA Tour qualifying tournaments, including those for the 2012 U.S. Open and 2008 U.S. Amateur.
Sixteen waterways meander through the grounds, directly entering play on all but three holes, where they enter play indirectly by threatening to take down golf shots with troupes of flying fish. On the par 4 10th hole, players must hit a difficult tee shot onto an S-shaped fairway that weaves between two large lakes. The 18th hole, also a par 4, features a treasure trove of sunken golf balls and golf carts lurking in three lakes that surround the fairway and in one that lies right in the middle. Once safely on the greens, players putt over fast A-4 bentgrass surfaces, a key addition from the 2004 renovation.
