Dancer, choreographer, and certified Pilates instructor Alisa Schillinger fell in love with dance as a high-school student—a love that she now passes on to the students at Axis Of Movement. Teaching dance styles including hip hop, breakdance, tap, ballet, jazz, and lyrical, Schillinger and her staff help students to master leaps, turns, taps, and splits. When not pirouetting through the studio, Alisa also teaches Pilates, and an on-staff massage therapist helps keep bodies limber in ways that have nothing to do with spelling out YMCA with your arms.
For more than two decades, Jesters Dinner Theatre has entertained audiences and their rumbling stomachs with tasty meals served during live, on-stage performances. Carousel, created by famed musical manufacturers Rodgers & Hammerstein, takes place in turn-of-the-19th-century Maine, where a once-carefree carousel barker with a pregnant wife becomes unemployed. To make some quick cash and avoid the disapproval of musical-theatre fans, the barker assists in a robbery and, after being caught, takes his own life. When he is allowed to return to earth for one day 15 years later, he meets his daughter and tries to fill her and her mother with love from beyond the grave. For Friday and Saturday shows, dinner starts at 6 p.m., and the curtain rises at 7:45 p.m. Meals start at 12:30 p.m. on Sundays, with a 2:15 p.m. curtain time.
When Santa Claus brought Left Hand Brewing Company’s cofounder Dick Doore his very first home-brewing kit, the jolly man unknowingly set Dick on a whole new life path. Home brewing became an obsession, and soon he had partnered with his college buddy Eric Wallace and started making their first batch of beer: the Sawtooth Ale. Just a few months later, Dick and Eric took home two medals at the Great American Beer Festival.
Nearly 20 years later, the brewery’s accomplishments have swelled: 16 medals in the Great American Beer Festival, 8 medals at the World Beer Cup, and 3 medals at the European Beer Star. The brewery was also the first craft-beer company to master bottling a nitrogenized craft beer without a widget, owing to the introduction of their popular milk stout. Its extensive offering of brews is now available in 25 markets. Favorites include the golden crisp Polestar Pilsner and a roasty black Wake Up Dead Imperial Stout, both of which are available in the Longmont tasting room.
Buried deep within the walls of the infamous Nightmare Factory is a hidden passage that descends two levels into Gordon Cottingham's Hospital for the Mentally Insane. Recently discovered, and deeper and darker than the previous levels, the damp and musty corridors are infested with spiders, rats, snakes, and other vermin. The eerie atmosphere is amplified by the endless screams of the tortured and damned souls that met their demise within the walls of the hospital. From the creators of the 13th Floor haunted house and Nightmare Factory, the Asylum features new frights for in-your-face terror.
Cinebarre combines a slate of first-run movies with a courteous, alcohol-enhanced atmosphere and crave-worthy kitchen concoctions. The menu features items with movie-inspired names, allowing cinephiles to pick a dish that aligns with their preferred genre or favorite Bill Paxton performance. Take teeth to the made-from-scratch pizza playground with the Chicken Run, topped with grilled chicken, caramelized onions, cheese, and barbecue sauce ($13). The Blue Velvet Burger––ground in-house––piles a juicy half-pounder with blue cheese, buffalo hot sauce, burger toppings, and a kick of chipotle mayo ($10). Appetizers, such as Some Like It Hot Wings ($9) and Lord of the Onion Rings ($7), make arduous journeys to melt into a copious selection of wine and local craft beers, as well as mixed drinks, including the Lolita Margarita ($6).
