  • USS Salem
In 1949, the USS Salem began its 10-year career patrolling the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. A flagship of the 6th Fleet during the Cold War era, it served as a “Lady of Diplomacy,” using its massive canons to impress ambassadors, not to fire on enemies. The ship also made headlines in 1953 when it harbored refugees from Greece following a massive earthquake. Today permanently docked in Quincy Fore River Shipyard, the Salem is one of the last preserved naval heavy cruisers in the world. Three quarters of the ship is used to honor the history of those who served, with features including a Navy SEALs exhibit, the USS Newport News Memorial Room, and a US Navy Cruiser Sailor Memorial. In addition to memories, the Salem also hosts birthday parties and overnight adventures filled with simulated battles and real-life survival instruction. If they listen closely, visitors might even hear some of the spooky sounds that earned the ship a feature on the SyFy channel’s Ghost Hunters in 2009.

  • The Jenney Museum
On the quaint corner of Spring Lane and Summer Street, The Jenney Museum sits as a historic bastion of tradition and treasures. Built in 1749, the house invites guests to wander through its two exhibit rooms and gift shop. Today, The Jenney Museum remains dedicated to preserving Plymouth's Pilgrim history and integrating it into the present day. Its location near the picturesque Town Brook beckons spring-time visitors to watch thousands of river herring migrate up the waters–a must-see stop before venturing on The Jenney Museum's historic walking tour led by historian and guide, Leo Martin. During each trek, Martin cants tales including the relationship between the Pilgrims and natives, recalling their struggles, survivals, and faith that laid the foundation of our country and created future memories of Thanksgiving dinners.

  • Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
The 15th-century style Venetian palazzo known as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is most famous for its historic art and contemporary collection – or infamous, perhaps, for its 1990 heist – but there are many beautiful sculptures, manuscripts and pieces of furniture that are also on display. Named after an American woman who loved the arts, the museum added a new wing in 2012 behind the main building that hosts live musical performances, prominent exhibits, concerts at Calderwood Hall and even two artists-in-resident apartments. The indoor courtyard, which has a spectacular year-round garden of flowering jade trees, summer blues hydrangeas and midwinter tropics flowers, is made even more beautiful when decorated for the holidays.
