Q&A with Michael Raphael, Therapist and Business Manager
What are some of your most popular services? What do you think clients love them so much?
Clients love our deep-tissue massage because we go deeper than most therapists, we include stretching, and we guide you, in a tranquil voice, to take long deep breaths and use the incredible power of your mind to relax your body. In this way, the session is like a guided-meditation [session] in which you become a more active participant in your own therapy. Some clients who have suffered for years with chronic pain are amazed by the relief they get from neuromuscular realignment, which analyzes your musculoskeletal imbalances and stretches the core muscles that are pulling your body out of alignment.
What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?
We are literally a mom-and-pop operation. [Roxanne and I have been] married for 17 years and are both licensed massage therapists. Roxanne is also a licensed skincare specialist, and [I am] also a chi gong instructor.
How did you get started in the beauty industry? Did you have an "ah-ha" moment in life?
It started back in 2006, when [I] got laid off from [my] cubicle job and decided to get into a manual-labor career. Having always had a natural talent for massage, [I] returned to school and became licensed, initially in Dallas, Texas. Roxanne, after years of lessons from [me], also went to massage school and became licensed in 2008. [We] moved to Miami and got Florida licenses in 2011.
When certain Hollywood A-listers find themselves in need of a cosmetic procedure, they leave California behind for Miami and the expertise of Dr. Deborah Longwill. As the principal physician behind the Miami Center for Dermatology, she keeps her clients—famous and otherwise—looking youthful through comprehensive skincare treatments. Board-certified in both cosmetic and general dermatology, Dr. Longwill also specializes in the identification and treatment of more serious skin conditions. Read on to learn more:
Injectables: Dr. Longwill stocks a full range of cosmetic injectables: clients can tighten up faces with Botox or Dysport, break down stubborn chin fat with Kybella, or plump up cheeks with fillers such as Juvéderm and Radiesse.
Laser treatments: The practice's laser treatments target areas of concern across the body, using their energy to remove tattoos, zap unwanted hair, reverse the effects of sun damage, tighten skin, and reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Specialty facials customized to each client's skin type can assuage the effects of rosacea, restore youthfulness with vitamin C, and extract pore-clogging dirt. The practice also offers peels and microdermabrasions.
Medical dermatology: Dr. Longwill uses her medical know-how to address the root causes of skin disorders. She can develop acne treatment plans, relieve psoriasis symptoms, and even detect early signs of skin cancer with the help of her industry-leading dermatoscope.
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
As a heart surgeon, author and world renowned expert in natural medicine, Dr. Dzugan and his scientific team have been creating personalized programs for over a decade. By analyzing results of his proprietary health questionnaire, they create a vitamin and supplement program unique to each member.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
We have a "massive purpose"
to make billions feel better. Over 90% of people consuming supplements and minerals today do so with no real knowledge or guidance
of which supplements to take, when to take them, dosages, and quality of the product. These are vital considerations that we solve.
What do you love most about your job?
We have witnessed incredibly powerful transformations in so many members. We have hundreds of amazing testimonials of how people got their lives, energy, focus and mood back. People are wasting billions of dollars buying supplements with no real improvement. We want everyone to feel better.
What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
Dr. Dzugan and his team saved my life and improved my quality of life beyond my wildest dreams. Dr. Dzugan, YOU ROCK!
Jim Pruchniewski peered down his leg at his blackened toes. He'd been rushed to the hospital after a blizzard waylaid him on a mountainside in Lake Placid. "You have third-degree frostbite," the doctor confirmed. "We'll have to amputate." Fortunately for Jim and his digits, the US Olympic ski team was training nearby. The team's podiatrist hurried to the hospital like a long-lost lover hurries to interrupt a wedding before the end of a movie. "Stop!" he might have shouted as the buzz saw probably descended toward the patient's toes. The hero, our Olympic podiatrist, examined the foot and concluded that the damage was superficial. The toes would recover. And they did. The episode moved Jim Pruchniewski, a former biology teacher, to earn his medical degree. Over the last 20 years, he's gained fourfold board certification in podiatric orthopedics, surgery, primary care, and the treatment of diabetic foot wounds. At North Lakeland Foot Clinic, he examines feet with the same attention that saved his toes decades ago. He and his staff do everything in their power to keep feet healthy and, in the case of diabetic patients, avert extreme measures like amputation.
